Seems like every weekend another one of these is going on. 99.99% of the time they don't really pan out very well at all.

It depends. Obviously the Desert Bus one was a success. The rest of the ones that have raised a lot of money have been themed, like all the SMB games and the Mega Man games. The one in the above article is a bit too corporate for my tastes though.
