So THERE'S a bunch of RPG's I WON'T play. For those who like a good story and solid gameplay without having to tear their hair out over the course of some 20-80 hours, what would you consider the EASIEST RPG you've ever beaten?

Try to keep this limited to decent games. No "You Have To Burn The Rope" entries are needed here :)

By far? Final Fantasy Mystic Quest on the SNES. It was intended to be an entry level RPG from the start. It's got a very simplistic battle system, there are no random encounters (all enemies are visible on the map), and there's even battle grounds where you can clear out all monsters to gain XP and win special items.

This was my first RPG, and if I hadn't played it I wouldn't have tried out other similar games. It introduced me to the core gamestyle most console RPGs had back in those days.

The story isn't very inspired, and it's obviously been kiddifed. You might not like it, but I loved it fifteen years ago.

Cadash for the Turbo Grafx.

Great side-scrolling action/RPG. My suggestion is go with the priest, the chained mace and protection spells will make the experience must faster.

With the TurboTap and a willing companion, you can play two players on it and make the experience more Dungeon's & Dragon's feel to it.

I found Super Mario RPG to be fairly easy, and I'm not much of an RPG player.

With that said SM:RPG is one of my very favorite SNES games. :)

Rhapsody for PS1. SRPG designed for preteen girls with a difficulty curve to match. If you manage to die at any point in the game, it's because you wanted to and you just really wanted to see if it was even possible to lose a fight.

I'll second FF Mystic Quest. It's definitely aimed at a younger audience, but still very enjoyable IMO.

Exile for the TurboGrafx-Cd. I can beat the game in less than 4 hours. Still is a good game though.:rocker:

Came here to post exactly this.

haha you guys are all silly, Quest 64 is by far the easiest game out there.

in fact, you can beat the game without fighting... at all. (i THINK you still might have to do the boss battles). just keep runnign past them!

Ditto. Also my first turn-based RPG I played and completed. I probably lost only once or twice. Very easy game.

Yeah, I beat Final Fantasy MQ.

Legend of Legaia isn't really that much harder, though. At least I don't remember it being so - although I know I had to start areas over a number of times due to team death.

Aren't you supposed to be able to do this in Fallout and Elder Scrolls titles? (;

Exile was easy peasy if you did a little grinding, otherwise the boss battles could trip you up. Still a pretty darn fun game, though.

Add my vote to FF Mystic Quest. Another one that I found to be very easy was Guardian Crusade for the PS1. I am not the best RPG player out there, (far from it, in fact), and I had no problem with it. I don't remember if I died or not, but I know that I didn't need any hints or anything. Based on my skill level, I wish that there were more "confidence builders" like these.

yes, but it was part of the design in those games... this game is just... simple and dumb. it is really a dumbed down version of FF:MQ for its time.

There are 31,562 games more worthy of your time.

It's easy but it also sucks. Life is short. Play something good.

I'm surprised so many people are agreeing with my opinion on FF:MQ. I've noticed the general consensus is that the title is just bad... but for its time? It was incredible. *shrugs*

If you have any clue whatsoever what you're doing, then Hydlide for NES.

I seem to also remember there being this RPG for the PC which was ludicrously easy, but I can't remember its name.

yes, i've beaten quest 64 and mystic quest and this game is the easiest of the bunch.

I love Mystic Quest.

As far as the easiest RPG ever made? Hands down Rhapsody for the Psone. I blew through the game in a single evening on "hard" mode using no one but the main character whom wasn't suppose to be a front line fighter. Bosses went down in no more than three rounds.

I found mystic quest kinda tedious o_o. I actually got stuck in it at one point where you need to muck about on the ship. (yay for gamefaqs.com). I would say though, it IS really easy. Its one of the few games where the final boss dies in two shots.

Suikoden for PSX.

My first RPG that I played through, mostly in anticipation of Final Fantasy 7. I believe I beat it somewhere between the 13th and 18th hour. It's very simple and only one part of the game (Neclord's Castle) really requires you to spend any extra time leveling up. No serious puzzles to get you stuck, if I remember correctly.

Great story and 108 characters to recruit; based on a chinese classic novel (All Men are Brothers, which I also own :P). Great music too.

I picked this up on the cheap back in 1997, but I think its value might have risen somewhat.

I'm currently getting slaughtered in Shadow Warrior on default difficulty (skill level 3) and could really use a nice confidence booster after this.

Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (at least the first one). Action RPGs do count, right?

I wouldn't say it's all that easy - getting the timings right can be quite tricky at times, and there can be heavy penalties for messing up. I also wouldn't call it an action RPG.

For that matter, Super Mario RPG isn't so much easy as much as it is tremendously short.

Eternal Sonata was pretty freaking easy.

It's still not as challenging as, say, Final Fantasy V.

I recently fired up DOSBox and picked up the Quest for Glory series. They might not be as easy as some of the level-grinding ones like Earthbound, but it's definitely more interesting - and it's not terribly difficult.

Quest 64 and FF MQ are easy but no good ...

I think any good rpg takes you step by step into its battle or magic system and you do not need any particular experiencie to play it.

For example, any real Final Fantasy is easy to play if you just want to finish it; but if the game gets you attention, you have plenty more to do.

Legend of Legaia could be one RPG that is very easy to get into and has enough depth to keep playing it, it is the best on this category since the game has a decent amount of playing time unlike Rhapsody, which is algo a very very good RPG.

I think Final Fantasy III (SNES, or Final Fantasy VI or whatever they want to call it now) was not very challenging, but the story made it a lot of fun in spite of being an easy game.

Ys Books I & II for the Turbo Duo was also pretty easy to run through once you get a hang of the funky combat system. But there are a couple of difficult boss fights.

Yeah, but at least it's not as expensive as Suikoden II. I did manage to get the first Suikoden for $5 at Goodwill earlier this year (missing its manual, but no big deal to me at that price).

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this, but Earthbound isn't a very particularly hard RPG.

Relative to the likes of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, Earthbound is plenty hard, especially towards the end what with the strictly limited inventory and plentiful enemies with magic resistance and party-wasting spells. The ultimate weapons with the 1-in-128 odds of appearing might also be taken into consideration, but arguably that's just cheapness.

I've not played Mystic Quest, Rhapsody, or Quest 64, but I thought I'd mention something a little different.

Panzer Dragoon Saga. I died all of once during the entire game. It's easy, it's short, and it's fantastic. And it's $200, but who cares?

Buck Rogers Countdown to Doomsday (for the Genesis). It's possible to die, but they printed a strategy guide right in the manual!
Also, the size of the levels etc is cut down from the computer versions.
