What makes Gunstar Heroes a truly unique title? In addition to the plot, action, humor, graphics, colors, sound, music, and originality, the game boasts an impressive system of mixing or matching four basic attack elements for your weapon.

Gimme double fire. I just think the half screen long stream of file is sweet.

Oh man, using that in the fourth level is so sweet. It's like you've got super powers while you're jumping and dodging enemy fire and doing melee attacks the entire time. It's cheap, but it adds so much to that level.

I think Chaser plus Fire. Whichever one homes in with a stream of big yellow-orange balls.

I've always liked the Force + Fire combo. The fireballs explode on impact, damaging the enemy you hit plus any enemies nearby. Great for bosses and groups of enemies!

Another vote for Chaser + Lightning.

It's absolutely awesome - but you just have to watch out because sometimes it'll get stuck on things (just let go of fire for a second, it'll fix itself)

Seeing this topic makes me want to play it again.

Isn't this game [or a sequal] out on the GBA or DS too?

There is a sequel on GBA, but it doesn't have the same weapon combining feature.
