If you could have 1 retro game pre 1997 made into a modern day game what would it be and why.
My choice would be Ducktale's that game would be awesome if it was a 3-dish game.

Either EarthBound or Popeye.

I want a new 2D Zelda. On the Wii, not on the DS! With sprite-based graphics, not polygons. I want it to play similarly to ALttP, just with sharper, higher res graphics. Remember how Four Swords Adventures looked on GameCube? That was so cool! On Wii it could look even better!
Yeah, I'm dreaming, I know.....

Autoduel - redone in the same style as Mercenaries preferably.

Tecmo Bowl (Although a DS version is coming) or Elevator Action.

Uninvited remade as a 3D first-person adventure game with its distinct horror qualities intact, but not so blatant in its scares as, say, Resident Evil. Exploring the sprawling estate, collecting all sorts of insane things, running into the occasional ghost or deathtrap, all done in an extremely atmospheric and graphically-rich way.

I enjoyed the hell out of Elevator Action Returns. We'd play through it on a single quarter between classes when I was going to college. We had the guy running the bookstore bump up the difficulty for us :D
My first pick would have been Bionic Commando, but I'm getting my wish :D
I'd love a new Discworld game!

Chase H.Q.
I think it would be fun--Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit-esque. Am I weird?

You might enjoy Raytracers for PlayStation if you haven't already played it. Very Chase H.Q.-esque, but with that smooth 3D gameplay one associates with an update.

A modern remake of Jazz Jackrabbit would either be the coolest thing since sliced bread or the dumbest crap ever. Not sure which.

...Jazz Jackrabbit...
You reminded me of Jumping Flash, an old PS1 fave. Love to see a new version without the poor frame rate.

Snatcher/Policenauts remade for Wii.

That would be hot to death.
If not Crystalis, then the Guardian Legend.

Zaxxon, baby, Zaxxon! It's waiting to be reborn. Make all that background scenery explorable territory with side missions.

I might just have to go with Blake Stone. Bring him to the modern day consoles instead of just the PC though.

I haven't! But I will be sure to now. Haven't played a good "racing" game in awhile, so I'm itching for one. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just bought that game off ebay and I am waiting for my NES also. Can't wait to play it. I think I would definetly second you on this. :)

I want a new Crystalis.
DAMN, that's a good one.
I'd also say Legacy of the Wizard.
But the first two Ninja Gaidens would be nice...or any new 2-D Ninja Gaiden like the NES ones.

That's a good one! My choice would be Out Of This World/Heart Of The Alien. I'd love to see that remade with today's tech.
I wouldn't mind a 2-D Zelda either...

I'd settle for a port of Policenauts to PSN/XBLA. It's already on the Japanese PSN, I really wish that Konami would translate the game and make it available to us. The buzz around Kojima's games has never really been higher since MGS 4 is still fresh in people's minds, so I'm sure a lot of people would download it, given the chance.

Archon 1 (but I doubt I'd change much)
or Jumpman, with about 200 levels.

or Jumpman, with about 200 levels.
It would be quite an accomplishment to make 200 levels and yet still maintain the unpredictable variety of the original 42.
I might have said Impossible Mission once, but it's been done (and I still haven't gotten around to playing it). So has Lemmings, for that matter.
