That's a fully rendered human model done in real-time, on AMD's new Cinema 2.0 platform.

The new Radeon 4870x2's have this feature.

At first I went "wow", then I read the article. That image does come from a real person -- they took her picture from several angles at once and used those images to transfer it to a 3D model. So while it's still impressive, it's not like they're doing this from "scratch". It's basically just a really advanced form of digitized graphics.

I guess that's kind of cool, but this other woman still looks completely fake:

The lighting, film grain, and depth-of-field are extremely well done, though.
