Sega is now officially dead.
The man that single handedly designed a good portion of Sega's greatest home and arcade titles has left the building.

Microsoft - hire him quick!!!!
EDIT - Changed the title over the news. *phew*

yeah this imo is very bad news (they do still work with yuji naka a bit but...) MS would do well to snatch him up. I guess this means shenmue is truly dead? (I can't imagine someone else working on it, maybe he holds some rights to it?)

If it is, he should at least release a novel that ends the series.
I want closure!

You're not kidding. I absolutely adored both Shenmue games, and seeing the ending to the second game was just crushing because I knew that the sequel would never come. This just reaffirms that.

I hope Nintendo gets him. Just picturing what he could do on the wii gets my heart skipping.

It's true that the man is one of the greatest game designers that ever lived, but one man leaving won't destroy Sega. Now will be a good time for some young maverick designer to move to the corner office and show Sega some fresh ideas. Even Yu Suzuki had to start on the low end of the ladder.:)

You're probably right...
But today, "It's as if a million gamers suddenly cried out in terror, then were suddenly silenced".
Today's just been a dreary day, after hearing this news. But the news being false gives me hope.
Poofta!

It doesnt give me any hope. Sega's balls were cliped years ago, they simply do not have the budget to release quality titles like they used to. Now, they can only release ports of their better known games from their archives. Atleast, that's all they feel good for to me. DING!

TBH, I wish it worked that way. We had a bunch of old people leave my job, and I am, honestly, considered the young maverick who has crazy ideas but they work very good. I brought up my job so that I can say from personaly experience that while this would be very awesome, you may not want to get your hopes up on that notion bro

Second that! It wouldn't hurt to release an animated video either concluding the series... Wouldn't it be grand... :)

I can't actually remember the last time Suzuki did anything. It's pretty telling that the executives at the company he works for are unclear whether or not he's still on the payroll.

From what I can tell, his current project is Sega Race TV.

It looks like a Burnout clone to me.
Before that he was working on Shenmue online which was from what I can tell, cancled. Same for Psy-Phi. Outrun 2 and Virtua Fighter 4 look to be the last games he's worked on to see an actual release.

Not from what I've been able to find. The sources could be mistaken and his name could simply be missing, but I aint seeing it so far.

So a guy who hasn't done anyhing of note in years allegedly left Sega, and they were doomed, but now he hasn't left and all is well, even though he really hasn't done anything of note in years? I think I was just hit by the hyperbole bus...I need a lawyer.

I thought Shenmue Online got un-canceled? Or has it been re-canceled? But yeah, I just looked around, and apparently you're correct about Out Run 2 and VF4 being his last released games. Part of that, though, has to do with him leaving AM2 and forming a new team that had issues getting off the ground (Digital Rex, now AM Plus) and then Shenmue Online had issues with its Korean co-developer or something.

I originaly thought it had been released. Guess it shows what both of us know? In the end, we didnt get it and even if it's out some where, I doubt we ever will.
