I went to Meijer with my friend last night, and we didn't even know the game was coming out at midnight until we saw a small line near the video games section. So we picked it up at midnight.
It seems like it's the same game. Ugh. Nothing really different. The Madden Moments are cool...even though NFL 2k5 had something similar in their Anniversary mode or whatever.
I actually play NFL 2k5 with updated rosters. It's just that much better than Madden.

Wouldn't mind joining a league but I'm not really that great, just play for fun. Awesome game and probably best Madden I've ever played and so far 2-0 in the preseason in franchise with my Bills..having a blast with it..like the virtua trainer, play back feature and chris talking about certain plays, touchdown celebraties.
Gotta' say I am impressed with the Wii version. Madden 07 and 08 for Wii were virtually identical to the PS2 release, with some waggle controls tacked on for good measure.
Madden 09 really "works the Wii," creating a unique experience that my family's been enjoying. There are Miis and bright flashy colors everywhere, motion-based touchdown celebrations that boost the stats of your player if you're active enough, and an overall cleaner "Wii feel."
The "All-Play" bit is getting slammed on a lot of forums because people don't realize you can turn it off. It's a simplified control scheme, designed to let people like my dad or nephew play alongside me while I use the "advanced" controls from the past couple of years.
Tthe online play is smooth ... finally. I've played about 10 games online in the past couple of days and they have been seamless. On top of that, there's a 5-on-5 mode that's fun for just throwing down some smack as opposed to taking on four quarters of strategic football.
I'm not a big football fan, but I usually keep an NFL game on the shelf for when family or buddies want to play. This one's my favorite in a long time (since 2K died).

how do you change the controls to advanced, i have been looking everywhere and cant find it, its driving me crazy.
When you're selecting teams before a game, notice the menu bar at the bottom that says to press the "1" button to toggle All-Play on or off. The All-Play logo should disappear from your controller icon when you press 1.

I sure hope they patch league play. It pales in comparison to what NCAA 09 has. Of course that had its own bugs. But you cannot let the CPU control any teams during the season. Baffling. You can have a draft, but they are then picked entirely at random, using a team's draft ranking. Oh and stats are not tracked by default.
EA FIX ThESE ISSUES!

Yes, I will say, ESPN NFL 2k5 is the best football game ever made to date.
I was planning on picking up this version of Madden as I had some high hopes for it...plus, I don't think I've bought a football game since 2k5. But I hada couple friends that picked it up and both are wishing they wouldn't have spent the $60 (or $90 for collector's in one friends case) on it and wish they could return it.

I regret spending $90 on a sports title, but NFL Head Coach 09 is much better than the original and Madden 09.

I actually did all the Madden moments. I'm proud of myself.
But god, playing defense in this game sucks. I loved using the free safety in NFL 2k5, because the controls were so smooth. It sucks bad in Madden. So I use the defensive end, and if I don't get to the ball, the play is over for me and I have to rely on my comp. Or I could switch to another player and stop them in their tracks, making the opponent avoid another tackle.

Nothing really different.
I haven't played a Madden since 04 or 05 I think, but I'm pretty sure that the "dynamic learning curve" or whatever they call it is *quite* different.
I played the Demo last night and was pretty impressed. It starts with the virtual training where it learns where you are strong and weak. I was all Madden on running and passing offense, and Rookie on running and passing defense, which I thought was really interesting ...
But god, playing defense in this game sucks.
Which were my thoughts exactly. I just had no clue how to tackle anybody in the virtual trainer. I got simply run over!
I'm impressed, but I don't see myself spending enough time on a sports title right now so I'm holding off. They take as much time as an RPG! :)
Maybe in the fall, or if I can convince some of my Xbox buddies to get a copy too (which isn't likely I'll admit)

I started to lose interest in Madden for different reasons than the rest of you. EA really screwed with the player ratings.
Up until Madden 2005 or 06, the gap between superstars and bottom tier guys was much greater. What I mean is that in earlier Madden games on the last gen systems, the best quarterbacks or running backs in the game had overall ratings of around 95. On the other end of the spectrum, you had the worst quarterbacks or running backs and they were usually sporting overall ratings in the high 30's or low 40's. It was the same thing with any position on offense or defense really.
The NFL 2K series also did a good job of having a large gap between the star players and scrubs. I thought it was cool, because it was clearly more representative of the talent gap in the real NFL. Plus I always did/do the preseason games in my Franchise mode. So I used to "pad" my 53-54 man roster with the lowest rated quarterback and running back in a given edition of Madden. Why? Let them get most of the playing time in the preseason, so if I suffer an injury at either position, then I'm not losing a star player. All I'll be losing is a scrub with a 35-40 rating who I might have cut or traded for a 7th round pick anyway. Besides the games don't count.
Sometime around Madden 06, EA tinkered with the ratings to the point where the best players in the game would be rated about 95-99. However, the absolute worst quarterbacks or running backs available are only ranked as low as 65-70. There are always like 10-15 guys in the recent editions of Madden with almost identical ratings of about 70 at the running back, quarterback, cornerback, tight end, wide receiver, etc. position.
That pisses me off. Not to mention I sometimes like leading teams to a Super Bowl in old editions of Madden with a large part of my roster made up of bums with a 40-45 rating.
