I'm not an expert at determining if these internet videos are real or not, but it didn't look real to me.

Always wanted to play TGM3. Shame the only one that got ported to a home console was TGM4 and even then it never made it out of Japan. :(
TGM2 was the god damn bee's knees.

Whenever I build up one side and leave a sliver open on the other side like that guy, I never get the skinny piece, I usually get like six squares in a row.

aparently in the nes version of tetris the trick is to take pieces you want more of and move them back and forth alot before you drop them. The game watches for pieces you take a long time to drop and gives you more of them thinking your having trouble with them can't say ive ever noticed it giving me alot more of the 4x1's though :-x.

It all makes sense now! Hate those square pieces.

Try playing with a turbo controller and whenever you get the long pieces on the early levels put the spin button on turbo till it hits the bottom of the playfield, do it long enough and you'll start getting long pieces MUCH more often then before. works really well on the tengen version (which also has a cheat code to get a long piece when you need it)

Very impressive but did you notice he rarely was given a duplicate piece? A shitload of S's in a row and then things get interesting. Also the "hold a piece" crap in modern Tetris is BS.

Still, at those speeds it's incredible what he can do!

I think it would have to be Data because that doesn't seem humanly possible. Especially when all of the pieces are invisible while the credits are scrolling.
So.......either that video's a fake or that "person" is an alien. :D

Funny thing, I was thinking "Data" too. Weird.
We need to get this guy to play the NWC version just to see what is humanly possible.

"Please keep in mind this video is an official Arika release"
In other words, if you think there's any way in hell that anyone could actually be this good at Tetris, you're a fool for falling for our promotional video tricks!
Most likely the left half of the video is a programmed sequence specially made to duplicate the hand motions of the right half of the video, thus creating the illusion that the alleged player is actually playing the game.

A friend of mine & I broke the top 100 worldwide ranking in Tetris on the original XBOX a number of years ago. Well, not to brag but we would smoke (we took turns) the competition. Well, that cockiness ended when we started playing people in the top 100. I remember playing a guy in the top 5 and it was unbelievable how fast this guy could play. After chatting with this guy we found that he would play Tetris like a game of chess. He would always think 10+ moves ahead and would always prepare for those "7 S pieces in a row" situation. Another tip my friend and I learned is that many Tetris "masters" tend to only think about broad piece placement and not specific piece placement (literally piece by piece analysis). Once my friend & I started playing with the "chess like" approach, our game improved even more. Unfortunately, there is always that "special gift" factor in puzzle games. Just like Bobby Fischer had a gift in chess, this guy had a gift in Tetris that we can never match.

Anyone saying anything similar to this obviously has never played any of the Tetris Grand Master games and has never seen any competitive TGM players play before. Whenever I show anyone a TGM video, they instantly think that it's somehow a fake.
Fire up the first one in MAME sometime (or hunt down a build of 99u4 w/ TGM2 in it) and give it a whirl. Read up on TGM gameplay strategies and the scoring system. Spend some time at Tetrisconcept.com (http://www.tetrisconcept.com/) informing yourself!

i seriously would challenge him. For year i've said I was good at Tetris and have yet to lose a battle. Hell I beat Tetris Ds on my first run through it. but that game is kiddish, i tend to like the more traditional NES and GAMEBOY versions.
