OH MY GOD! Why didn't someone tell me about this sooner???

http://www.dailygame.net/news/archives/007962.php

Man, I almost broke down and preordered this today at Gamestop, I was so taken back. Let's see: Plinko? Check. Cliff Hanger? Check. Bob Barker?!? Check. Please, please, please let there be a sound test in there. Man, I will carry around the DS version all the time just so I can do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ytCEuuW2_A

Me too. The dude at Gamestop and I shared a completely unironic moment over this game.

It's about time we had a Price Is Right game. It's pretty cool that Bob Barker's going to be in it too. However, I have a feeling that it's going to be Jeopardy! on the NES bad. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Here's hoping we get to see Bob Barker's reminder at the end of every videogame "program" to spay and neuter your pets.Agreed.

They have multiple "editions" out for older PCs...I wish the NES version came out!

If it has a bonus round where you get to be Bob Barker and punch Adam Sandler in the face I'm there.

well it's about time! we got Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and Jeopardy way back in the days of 16BIT, but we never got TPIR... I wish they'd make it for all the old systems too... I personally could've lived without Jeopardy instead of this!

Too bad it wouldn't have voice chat as Nintendo doesn't seem to think people want that. Fuck yeah I wanna trash talk people on the Price Is Right.

it'll be even more awesome if you can use whatever you want for the names the announcer calls at the beginning of bidding rounds... imagine all the fun...

And somehow my mind just went to a blind man as a contestant on the price is right.

Not to piss on any one's barbecue - and I'm a HUGE game show fan - but this has disaster written all over it. Hear me out:

Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and other game shows based on trivia or word games translate pretty well to videogaming. After all, trivia questions/answers and the way words are spelled never change over the years. But a game show based on the the prices of various objects is gonna be outdated REAL fast. I have a collection of board games based on TV game shows. I have Price is Right in fact....from 1978.

Quick, what's the average retail price of a brand new Ford? Yup....$6,999.
All expences paid trip to Trip to Hawaii? $1,999.
How about a washer/dryer combo? $299.
Bottle of shampoo? 88 cents.

And since most of the games are obviously based on guessing/estimating prices, this game will be sorely out of date in about a year's time.

The game may be OK, but the actual show has tanked BIG TIME. Drew Carey seems like he doesn't even want to be there half the time.

Yeah, no one would buy a game that is obsolete in a year. That's why Madden is such a failure in sales.

And they update it every damn year. So maybe TPIR 09 can be followed up next year by TPIR 10
and then TPIR 11
then TPIR 12...

Sniderman is the little voice of doubt in the back of my head. That was the second doubtful thought I had about this game. The third was "how long would you have to play this before you've memorized all the prices?" Now, what would be really cool would be a patch or even DLC so you could update the items. But...

My first doubtful thought about this: "hmm...it's a Wii, DS and PC game from Ubisoft. Hasn't their bread and butter lately been the Petz franchise? How is this not going to be a cheap, thrown together POS?" I really want this to be good. I seriously think this could be a very fun party game. Hell, I'll play it by myself and love it. But realistically, I'm just hoping it's better than Deal or No Deal DS.

(And I'm still pissed that my mom pitched my TPIR board game all those years ago. Thanks mom!)

I'd probably lose my job if there was a DS version with that sort of sound test in it. ;)

My wife and went to a Price Is Right "show" in Atlantic City (hosted by Mark Sommers of "Double Dare" fame). For this game instead of guessing prices of current items, you had to figure out the price of old stuff. Example: one of the items was a refrigerator from 1978 with a built-in cassette player. I reasoned that old electronics tended to be outrageously expensive so I bid high...the actual cost was, $250 or something ridiculous. Guessing old prices actually made it more fun and more challenging.

If a game is good, I don't care if all I get is a year's worth of enjoyment out of it. This will probably retail at $39, which is how much a nice dinner for two costs.

Uh, I am pretty sure we are related or something dude. Those words were taken right out of my mouth.

I hope there are no updates to the game. I will smoke everybody that steps to the plate online. Wait until I memorize all the stuff! BRING IT SUCKAZ! Me and Bob are taking you out!

For those of you that are interested, sometime today Amazon dropped their price on these to preorder. List price for the Wii version is $40, and Amazon's selling it for $33, and the list price on the DS one is $30, and Amazon's selling it for $23.

OK, who has it? I know someone does. I haven't taken the plunge yet because I got too much stuff to do this month and the last thing I need is another distraction.

Please tell me this is good. Please?

Yeah, I bet this won't be bad for the consoles since they can connect to the internet and get new items all the time.

I also want to know who has it.

Well, I played this game this past weekend. My sister came to visit this weekend and picked the Wii version for herself so I got her to break the seal and we popped it into the Wii.

My sister, my wife and I played for about two hours total on Saturday night. In that two hours we saw the same prizes come up in various pricing games about four times and out for the 17 or so games, we played about 8 of them. So with no ability to download new content I can see it getting old pretty fast.

Neither Bob or Drew are in the game so that was a bit disappointing as well but I was able to get over that hurdle. Another annoyance is that multiplayer is handled by using one remote for all four players with no options to add additional remotes which once we figured that out was not that bad but I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out if my remotes were having issues.

Over all it is not that bad of a game but I would wait for hit the bargain bin.

Yeah, I thought Bob was going to be in there, but nope. Spent a little time with the DS version and, well, it'll be an OK time killer, but I still think the potential exists for a really good TPIR game and I'm afraid this ain't it. :(

What I find humorous is the disclaimer on the DS version, which scrolls through every time you turn the game on:

The within game constitutes a depiction of the popular television game show 'The Price is Right' where the contestants are selected to compete for an opportunity to win cash prizes which are awarded on this television show. The within video product is intended for amusement only and no cash prizes, cash awards, or monetary prizes will be awarded to any player or participant who plays this video game. Any specific references to prizes or cash awards or the depictions of winning any monetary sums are solely related to the content contained in that television game show "The Price is Right" and shall not constitute a contest, sweepstakes, competition or offer intended to reward the player with any cash award or cash prizes or any type of credit or monetary renumeration as a result of their video gameplay. FreeMantle Media, Ludia Inc, their employees, servants, agents, independent contractors, distributors, producers, publishers, and manufacturers hereby disclaim any and all claims, rights or assertions for payment of any financial sums based upon the play of this video game product, which video game is intended solely for the use and enjoyment of any player.

And I find the DS version fairly fun, though I can see how limited it can be since I've seen the same products a couple times now. I still want to try the Wii version with the family, as I think it would be a great time-waster.
