Most of my video game magazine subscriptions have dried up, and I'm realizing a few weeks away from The Simpsons Game release that I know very little about it, except that I'm going to want it. Does anyone have any insight as to which platform it looks the best on? It's coming out on the PS2, PS3, PSP, X-Box 360, DS, and Wii. I'm particularly curious about the Wii and DS versions, and how different they are from the others.

Also, GameStop has a pretty cool Homerball as a pre-order giveaway that I'd like to get if possible, but that will require making up my mind on which platform to buy it on before the reviews come out.

Fuck GameStop!

I played the demo on the PS3, and it was disappointing. It wasn't too bad, but it could've been so much better. The camera controls were bad, locking on was bad, and getting onto the second and third platforms on the enemy was a pain in the neck.

On the other hand, the graphics look good, the cutscenes rule, and there's a lot of funny stuff happening.

That Lard Lad was a seriously poor choice for a demo boss battle.

I played the demo on 360. It looked really pretty. And funny stuff was happening, but it played like your average platformer of this day and age. I was really stoked when it said it would be lampooning all sorts of videogames.

I assumed you'd get some RPG action from your WOW knockoff, some first person shooting from your call of duty knockoff, and so forth. But apparently its just 3rd person platforming.

I understand how much work would have to go into something like that. But shit, I feel like its going to be an average platforming game (which still makes it better than your average simpsons game).

As a superfan of the simpsons (note the avitar) I actually loved the demo. But I think it was odd they went all the way back to the ep. where all the town's advertising came back to life. The only problem I had with this game was when playing as Homer, one of his weapons was his burp. And anyone who has ever watched the Simpsons knows that everyones burps, in the show, sound exactly alike.

In the game, it didn't sound like a trademark Simpsons burp, at all.. It sounded like a garbled mess

But overall, I enjoyed the demo - and the animation in the opening sequence was done very well - it almost surpasses the quality of the animation in the movie. :)

The demo scared me away. It was REALLY frustrating. I went looking online for a strategy thinking "maybe I am stupidly missing something", but no it is just that difficult to reach the upper panels of the Lard Lad.

Look was good and the sound was funny enough, but I could get that from an old Simpsons episode.

I had a problem with that too. It seemed as though there were not enough ways to get high enough. Once you had Lard Lad stunned, jumped on top of a building, he ended up being too far away for Bart to glide to the panel.

Also, is it just me or is Homer completely useless in the demo? Besides just rolling over some Krusty dolls, I didn't see an effective way to harm Lard Lad with Homer.

I agree 100% with both of these which is why I'm going to be passing on yet another Simpsons' game.

Arent games suppost to be a little difficult, i mean whats the fun of playing a game if its not a challenge? I saw on http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26032.html that you need to shoot him right by one of those sewer things to float up to the top hatch to beat him, just to help out a little... Im gonna get this game for sure..

Glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble with the demo. I did find the game rather entertaining, but frustrating at the same time. Will be a game I pick up when the price drops to $19.99 or less.

I played through the demo a second time. I think this is going to be the sort of game that's fun after the first playthrough. I finished the level in 1/3 the time, and I wasn't as frustrated throughout the demo. A little experience goes a long way.

Also, Homer was pretty much useless in the demo. I used Bart exclusively after I switched to him after the game started.

Somehow the game reminded me of the Futurama game. Tie-in with a popular series, quite a few funny little things if you're a fan of the series, but ultimately nothing really worth playing (judging from the demo). OTOH, I completed the Futurama game, so...

It was frustrating, not challenging. You start to get the feeling while battling that fat bastard that you're gonna need the stars to the align in order to get the hatches open at the same time you're near one of the few spots where it's actually possible to get up there. Just really poorly designed. "Simpsons Hit & Run" was an excellent game for anyone that hasn't played it yet. The sandbox concept fit the series well, allowing fans to travel all over Springfield at a whim and check out all the familiar sights. This run-of-the-mill platformer gives hardcore fans LESS access to the Simpsons universe. I actually like EA but this demo makes it seem like they blew it on this one.

Since the game's out now, has anyone here actually got and played it? I'm thinking about it but would have to settle for either the PS2 version or the DS one as I do not currently own a Wii, PS3 or 360. I saw a review at IGN which seems to indicate the PS2 version has poor controls. So I'd like to hear any input from anyone who's actually played either the PS2 or DS versions.

Don't, I repeat DON'T get the Wii version. Me and a mate played through the first couple of levels and it was just terrible.

The camera has got to be the worst since Sonic Adventure Battle 2 for the Gamecube. It took us almost an hour to complete the Museum because of the horrific regular controls, bad camera and stupid motion controls.

Plus it was really just not that funny, I could not quite put my finger on it but its like each level has one long running gag, and that's about it. Combat is repetative and boring, even other characters stages which don't just use the button masher tatic are quite dull and unresponsive.

I never take games back, but this one was so bad I took it back that SAME DAY and got me a real game, Metroid Prime 3 :)

Yeah, I wound up getting it on Black Friday at Target for $18 new for the PSP, and it turns out that it does suck pretty bad. I tend not to like 3-D platformers, but I also don't like Grand Theft Auto-type games or racing games and I like Road Rage and Hit & Run, so I figured this one would be a reasonably safe bet. Plus, it has a Matt Groening boss! But no, I was wrong, it blows.

The PSP version's the only one I've played, though.

I RENTED it for the 360 and if you are a fan of the simpsons I'd strongly recommend of RENTING it for the 360. Me and a friend beat it in one sitting and though it was fun, it's very short and has no real replay value. It is funny as hell though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hated the demo. I though it looked fantastic, they really nailed the look for sure, but it was frustrating. One of my biggest complaints was finding character-specific items/places and not knowing how to get said character (read: Homer) up to that point of the level to take advantage of it. Not much of a Simpsons fan as it is, so I'll be skipping this one as well.

I actually caught the episode of XPlay tonight in which they reviewed it for the Xbox 360 and they gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

Its not a game you play for the game play, that is average for sure. You play it because its the best writing The Simpsons has had in many, many, years.

I'm waiting for the PS2 version to hit $10. Even if it's not that great, at least it's not Bart vs. The Space Mutants, Simpsons Wrestling, or Simpsons Skateboarding.

The Simpsons Game is freakin' awesome! Especially if you love The Simpsons, it has so much humor and made me laugh very often. It's best enjoyed with a friend in the 2-player mode, but on your own it's also very entertaining.

The levels are superfun, with Grand Theft Scratchy and Neverquest to mention a few, the game is full of videogame referances and is a must own for a collector.

Was the demo the level where you had to take down the Lard Lad? That does really not do the game justice, you do have some sweet comments from Kent Brockman though.

It also features what must be the easiest achivement ever, "press start to play" :-D

I bought this game when it was on clearance at Target a few months ago. I haven't opened it yet. I'm holding off until that mythical "enough time to play" comes to pass.

If you're a fan of The Simpsons and games with a lot of collectibles, then you should enjoy the game. You get a fairly large virtual Springfield to mess about in the game, and it has 300 hidden tokens/stamps/duff caps/coupons to find. There's also a handful in each "level" of the game as well. I think I had more fun finding all of those than the game itself, but the game is okay too.

I found it for $20 about a month or two after it came out, which was a great deal at the time, however I didn't play it for 2-3 months after the fact...

Still, I enjoyed it enough to deem it "shelf worthy", as in something I decided not to trade in even after finishing it completely. The last two levels are a hoot as well. :)
