Playstation 3 and import PSX/PS2 games

I've heard that PS3 is region-free for blurays and ps3 games, which is great. However, it is apparently NOT region-free for PSX/PS2 stuff.

I want my PS3 to play Japanese PSX/PS2 games. How can I make it do so without a modchip? I've read that you can use an Action Replay on a PS2 to force American PS2s to play Japanese PS2 games. This is the sort of solution I'd like for my PS3.

Any suggestions?

I've never heard anything about the PS3 ever being compatible for the PS1, it used to be backwards compatible with PS2. However, it has been said that they did stop backwards compatibility on the newer, lower priced models.

Um... I have the 60GB model, which is fully backwards compatible with almost all PSX/PS2 games...?

However, this has little to do with my request: I want to play *import* PSX/PS2 games on my PS3 without a hard mod.

As far as I know there is no solution for this problem, which is stupid considering the PS3 is region free for PS3 games.

My advice, buy an import PS2 (modding a PS2 sucks). They are cheap now and it will play all the games you want that are non us.

Ugh. I don't really want to do that, especially since I'm pretty much out of space for consoles... but if I can't find any other solution, maybe I will eventually...

US chubby PS2 + HD + HDloader = region free goodness.


(For PS2 anyway. You can get something like a PSXchange for an old PSX.)
