Dubbed "Overkill" coming 2009. Not what I expected when shelling out thirty bucks for HotD 2&3.

http://www.gamekyo.com/video12684_nouveau-house-of-the-dead-sur-wii.html

Black magic? Strippers? Have these guys ever played any previous HotD before? "Misplaced" is the only word that comes to my mind.

Dashes my hopes for the 4th installment on the Wii. :bawling:

Actually, upon viewing that, it looks like they were going for the same old school chop shop movie vibes that Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did with their double feature a while back.

I liked it, and I'm sure the dancers aren't actually in the game.

Hmm, I hope the gameplay is good (kinda hard to mess up a rail lightgun game). The story was never that great either, but then again, it is a rail lightgun game.

This game looks freaking amazing. I will definitely buy this game when it's released and I hope that it has all the extra little edits (dancers, film distortion, etc) and such to make it look like an old campy film. We need more of that type of style and art direction in new games today. Hopefully some game in this style will come out for the ps3.

Yes, just like an old Grindhouse movie. Loved the trailer. Looks very promising. The should throw in a "SEGA!" at the end.

That video looked totally awesome! Loved the whole b-movie vibe it oozes off, I'm definitly picking this up at day one. (Like I do with all Sega games, hehe :p )

This game isn't actually produced by Sega though, right?

There was me expecting a Wii version of the new cell shaded HotD EX.

True, Sega is just publisher on this one, it's Headstrong Games that's producing this.

Wow, that looks fantastic! I love the gritty aesthetic, it definitely looks like a step in the right direction for a series that was getting a little too bright and glossy for its own good.

Also, small touches like being able to see the weapon in your hands when you reload, is nice and should serve well to help with the immersion factor.

I'm impressed.

Wow. Nice Grindhouse trailer rip-off. At least Tarantino's and Rodriquez's homage to old 70's B-movies was original. This "trailer" uses zero imagination. It's a direct copy of their movies/trailers for Grindhouse. Weak. I guess "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

You're claiming Tarintino's work as being original? The guy hasn't done much original work in his directing career - he's possibly the most unoriginal director of all-time.

But yes, you are right about this trailer being a rip-off. I'm not sure why Sega decided to let a big name series be produced another production team, and even worse, a non-Japanese production team.

Grindhouse was hardly original. Bigger budget and more mainstream, but not original by a long shot. Nor was the faux exploitation trailer idea.

That said, I don't know how I feel about this. I'm one of those people who really enjoys the series as it is and doesn't need a whole lot of new or groundbreaking. I'm probably in the minority though. Color me cautiously hopeful about this one.

I think it looks really good. It might be the first Wii game that I will buy in a long while. I rarely play my Wii but there are now a few games coming out that I am definitely picking up, and this is one of them.

Some of the best Sega games lately have not been developed in-house, so I see this as a continuing effort of letting western developers deal with their licenses aswell as new IP's.

If it had not been for the decisions made by Sega of America to publish certain titles Sega would not be doing as well as they do now.

There's no such thing as a hardcore game. (Or casual games, for that matter. ;) )

Returning to topic...

Overkill trailer looks good. Compared to previous HotD 2&3 and Umbrella Chronicles, where everything comes at you fast and have tons of stuff to shoot at, Overkill acts like a barebone zombie game that looks very "vacant" with a "gothic-funky" style doesn't blend with the series. I'll reserve judgement when I see more.

Loved the trailer, but I doubt the game will have any relation to its style. Looks cool, too bad I sold my 2nd wii a few months back and one lightgun game does not purchase number three make.

Trailer is very stylish and well-put together, but I can't say I'd be very excited for yet another light gun shooter even if I still had my Wii.

Is it me or does it feel like the House of the Dead name is just tacked on? It could have easily just been named Overkill and been able to hold it's own.

Regardless the game does look interesting, if I had a Wii I'd probably pick it up.

Looks to be a prequel to the whole storyline. And a total homage to the old zombie movies of the 60's. Looks quite nifty just based on the trailer.

I would have liked 4, but this will do nicely. They should bring out 4 still. Maybe along with the original. Old and New sorta deal. :)

Yeah, I guess you're right. From a business stand-point it makes sense.

I played the new Sega "Rambo" arcade gun shooting game a few weeks ago - it was pretty good, don't think it's finished yet, it was just a location test unit.

One of the best trailers I've ever seen - just hilarious. Unless they really screw it up somehow, it's a Day 1 purchase for me. Umbrella Chronicles was simply fantastic. I hope they go a similar route and make a real "console" gun game out of HotD:Overkill: multiple paths, missions, unlockables, weapon upgrades, etc. That gave RE:UC a lot of replay value.

Oh, and SUFFER LIKE G DID!!!!!

Has anyone gotten this yet?

What do you think?

I have finished story mode and about half of the directors cut.

I love it all so far, the unlockables are decent, and some of the soundtrack is hilarious.

I wanna hear others opinions!

I bought it on day one but am scared to play it while my little girl is around. I don't know how 'M' it is. I don't mind her seeing the zombies, shooting, or gore. I'm worried about the language. She is just learning to speak well and repeats EVERYTHING she hears on TV. I'll probably bust it out tonight after she goes to bed. How is the language? I know there are lots of F's in it, but if I just play the game and skip the cut scenes is it safe for her to watch?

There's lots of cursing during the actual game play.

Fun game, though, especially if you dig the "grindhouse" movies the game is inspired by.

I dig the Grindhouse aesthetic of the game ... I was a bit put off by the $40 price tag ... and I'll probably wait till it drops, and honestly that's only because I have so many other full-price purchases to make this month.

But I can't fault Sega on this one, they did give us HOTD2&3 at a bargain price prior.

Yep. This will be after hours play only for me. While it sucks that I can't just pop it in and go at it anytime, I'm cool with it. I knew this would happen eventually when I chose to have kids. Hell when she's old enough maybe we'll still play it together.

This is pretty awesome. My brother and I had so much fun with the light guns in House of the Dead 2 for the Dreamcast. That game is a classic.

I paid $50 for it and don't mind. But probably the only other game (besides the PS3 Genesis Collection) I'll be picking up this month is SFIV.

If you're concerned with the cost, you should also probably know that it's a easy game to beat. I got through it last night, the same day I bought it. The game starts out tough, but then as you unlock/upgrade weapons, it gets easier. I still need to check out the "director's cut" mode and the mini-games though.

Good to know. Length isn't much of an issue ... and I wouldn't want a HOTD game to be longer than any of the others that came before it. I'll probably drop the cash on it when it hits the lower price tier.

Got my pal edition shipped today with the bonus -

2 x HOTD commissioned AMS Hand Cannons. These are a replica of the hand cannons used by Agent G in the game. The hand cannons will also allow firing from the trigger with a new advanced mechanism that allows the player to shoot as they would in real life.

pretty sweet!

Also it would be awsome if they put some DLC codes in the game for new missions, dlc would work really well on something that is relatively short like HOTD.
