So I just finished this game -- thought it was excellent (at least an 8 out of 10). Having seen the price plummet and also recalling some marginal reviews I thought I'd give this game a plug. You can get it dirt cheap...

Gamespot gave this a 5 out of 10, which I feel is utterly ridiculous. I usually rely on GameRankings for my review scores, the average is usually close, but some reviewers trashed this game and I wonder if they had an agenda because this game is quite decent.

The reviews complained about camera angles...which is getting tedious....every game with a camera gets this complaint, when will they realize that there is no perfect camera...the camera is not that bad except a little bit when fighting in confined spaces.

Much of the gameplay is being dissed as repetitive...how come Diablo does not get dissed for being repetitive? Its the same idea...

I think the Norse mythos appeals to me so I get a little more engrossed in the story than some might, but I gotta' say this game deserves a chance, has some great elements.

If you play alot of games I'd play this on hard. There is very little penalty for dieing so might as well...

I loved this game, it's easily one of the most underrated games of this gen IMO. It's much better than your typical God of War clone, having varied gameplay and brutal finishing moves. I too enjoy Norse mythology, so the game's use of it made it a lot more enjoyable for me. Hard mode felt just about right, I never bothered playing it on Normal. One of the main things I felt like they could've improved on, though, was character development. It felt like Skaarin got the least amount of it, even though he was the main character. I'd love a sequel, but sadly I doubt there will be one since I don't think the game sold very well.

19.99 for 360 or 39.99 for ps3. Were there any major differences? Now I am curious to play it? Just rather not pay too much unless its worth it.

What?!? 19.99

I know the company that put it out too, and it is on my list of games to get (unless one of you have a copy you want to part with for less than 19.99)

I will have to get that one next.

Another mysteriously underrated gem of the current generation. Vikings just don't get no love. :(

Toss another thumbs up on this game from me. Thoroughly enjoyed it - though I didn't QUITE finish it. I didn't have any problem with camera angles and only put it down because I couldn't get to a certain point on the map. I should probably use cheats and/or strategy guides and/or gamefaqs more often. Anyway, for twenty bucks this is an absolute home run. I had no problem with it at its original retail price.

The 360 version has a much better frame rate, so I'd go with that one if it's an option.

Been intrigued for some time now, but I've kinda been in a mode where I haven't paid full retail price for anything but the top tier games.

$20 is right in the sweet spot. Thanks for the heads up on this.

20 bucks? Might pick it up for that price, since I was mildly interested at $40. :)

.

It's not the fighting, it's the level design. It never varies. Each level, you take out a few camps, rescue hostages, sneak into the main camp, and then tackle the big fight which you can never lose (or really play a major role in). The flow is never altered. Saying it's repetitive would be 100% correct.

That said, I loved the game even with its issues. Played all the way through it.

Cool,
I was on the fence as I got Conan and enjoyed it but got po'd at the price drop 2 days after I bought it.

I got this when it was released, a very cool game, and the achivements comes pretty easy as well! At 20 bucks it's a steal!

Repetition isn't a fault here though. That's the point of the game, the style. Repetition can be claimed as a fault for almost any game if one wished to. I just think that the reviews are reaching, trying to find fault where there is just gameplay...

I had my eyes on Vikings for some time now, and today I bought it used for the PS3 from GS for $12. (coupon plus 10% card) I also bought the lesser Conan for the same price.

Give me huge demons to defeat and I'm happy, I just love these kinds of action-adventure games since the NES Castlevania even if in some cases on the repetitive side.

I loved to death Devil May Cry -- one of the most influential games of the last gen (from a gamedesign standpoint), and if we could pinpoint THE highlight of action adventures games for the last gen games it certainly would be the two God of War games. Castlevania, Rygar, Onimusha, Shinobi, Otogi -- all good games.

I'm playing through it right now. Just completed first island. I'd say it's a buy at $20. So far it's kept my attention longer than Conan. Probably not saying much though as I'm stalled on DMC4 and NG2 as well.

Things that bother me with the game though:
1) Red/Green orbs should auto find me when I kill an opponent. Not have to be practically touching them to get them.
2) Treasure yellow squares have above/below me indication on mini
3) Kinda awkward buttons with the rune weapon selection stuff

Other than those smaller things, really the orb one is the one that gets me. But I like it, so far. Repetition isn't always a bad thing, I'm cutting dudes up, continuing that will still be fun.

Interesting that Conan is being mentioned. I played that just after Viking and enjoyed, though not quite as much. Conan is much tougher on hard difficulty. I gave up on the final boss...was taking too long...

Some of the one-liners from Conan are memorable.

"Would you serve a woman Conan?".
"Service her, Aye, and gladly." (something like that).

I also picked this up for $12 on PS3. So far so good. Made it to the second island(level) the first night playing. How many different levels(areas) are there in the game? My only complaint is when you are fighting in a big group, I can not even see my guy. I have no idea what is going on or if I am even hitting anyone. I do like the difficulty level, seems to keep the game moving at a nice pace.

There are only 3 islands. The second island is the best of the three, as I spent most of my time there when I played it the first time. The third island was pretty lacking in story/exploring. Just go from encampment to encampment and kill the orcs.

I liked it quite a bit for the 24 bucks I spent on it, but I couldn't see paying much more for it.

I still need to go back and beat it on hard for those last 3 achievements. *UG*

I had this in my hand last night at GS, but ultimately put it back. My interest is peaked thanks to this thread, but with Tales of Vesperia coming in the mail soon, then Infinite Undiscovery (and at least 5 other must have games coming out in 2 months), I won't have time to play this. I'll wait until a B2G1 sale or a coupon before I pick it up (although it is already cheap...I can wait ;))
