Okay, so I want to make sure, I know that Japanese and American prongs are the same, but wouldn't I need a stepdown converter because the voltages are different?

I know they are cheap, I just need an answer.

How... vague.

Generally the adapter will read a voltage tolerance... my laptop says 100-240V so I can use it in Japan or North America.

Okay, it's an AV Famicom, so I'm just gonna get a converter just to be safe, unless it seems to work with no problems.

Waste of money IMO. The Voltage difference is so small nothing is really going to happen. A lot of AC adaptors will say "For use in US/JPN" or something along those lines. Of course if you plan to play 8 hours at a time then maybe you should get one LOL.

I've actually noticed my Genesis AC adaptor gets hotter than my Super Famciom AC adaptor .

So I don't need a converter?

I do not own any Japanese consoles yet, but I know that there are no problems with their power cords.
Japan uses the same type of plug slots and all of that, so you should be fine. ;)

You don't need a converter. They're not really that cheap, either. It'd be cheaper to buy a new AC adapter in 10 years when - if - you burn the current one out. Which is unlikely to happen, of course.
