While it's not quite the awkward Taco-phone that the N-Gage classic was ...

I must admit to personally taking ANY public opportunity that has presented itself to date to use my unlimited Skype-out account via my PSP slim's Skype features. (Mainly because it works surprisingly well, and also so I can get my $30 worth on the unlimited Skype credit.)

The only problem I've faced so far is having to monkey with the PSP Slim headset and "remote control" any time I want to make a call. NOT. CONVENIENT.

Enter the "Skype-Exclusive Phone Hardware" for PSP slim!

Now I don't have to futz around with two overly long, pendulous, dangly wires if I'm planning on making an outgoing call on my PSP whilst out and about (in a WiFi environment!).

Yeah, I know ... it's a total vanity accessory. But for that price ($6.87 + free shipping) what's to lose? Sony charges close to $30 for the headset ... which is pretty silly if you're ONLY using it for Skype calling.

And, there's just something about side-talkin' that warms the cockles of my heart.

No problem.

I wouldn't have even cared if you did talk a ton of shit about it. I can resign myself to the fact that I'm one of the very few that gets off on novel crap like this.

Come to think of it ... it probably is a decent hands/head free microphone/speaker combo for online multiplayer games that feature voice chat like Syphon Filter Combat Ops.

I still use my N-Gage for sidetalkin' love.

Though, this is kinda cool, I will admit.

Got my Skype Phone attachment for PSP earlier this week, cracked it open, popped it on, and made a few outgoing calls with it ...

here are my findings.

SUPER LIGHT. Weighs next to nothing.

The speaker on the unit is crisp and about as loud as a standard cellphone that doesn't have some kind of audio-player speaker in it.

I would imagine you'd be able to use this thing indoors or out with little to no problems in the way of hearing what people are saying to you.

The microphone was found to be clean and audible in all calls I made, and I could hear my voice perfectly on an answering machine voicemail that I left and then listened to.

The unit has a pass-through port for the PSP's AC adapter, and is contoured nicely to fit the shape of your right palm.

Overall, absolutely worth the $6 I paid for it. I previously had a USB Skype phone type hand-set that I would use on my computer ... as WiFi Skype handsets run about $50 to $100.

Now I can use my PSP as my in-house Skype handset and walk around un-hindered if needed.

Nice.

Here are some pics.
