How tall can you get a Sega Genesis?

I'd like to start a fun game.

To all Sega Genesis/MD owners - how tall can you get it and still have it function? For instance, a Genesis +32X is taller than just a Genesis, and works. Throw a game genie into the 32X, it's even taller, and works. Throw a Sonic and Knuckles cart into that and its even taller, then something else and something else.

How tall can it go? Could you double up on some things? (e.g. plug a game genie into a game genie? would it still work?) I think this would be fun. Unfortunately my limit is a Sega CD, then Genesis, then 32X, then cartridge :(

I have no idea. It ain't mine. Just look up "Genesis Tower" on teh Intertubes to see pictures of 'em. We've kinda discussed them at length in the past and I was able to find a photo in seconds of one of them.

It's a Power Base Converter; they let you play Master System games on the MD/Genesis. If I'm not mistaken, they just routed the game through the Z80 on the Genesis and used it as a processor.

I don't have a pic, but my personal favorite variation of the Genesiscraper I've built is with Pete Sampras Tennis sticking out of the top, because you can hook 2 controllers into it.

haha i was just kidding 32x has always been one of my favorite underdog systems. got it when it was released spent countless hours blowing off homework playing doom, virtua fighting, star wars arcade, and cosmic carnage (theres no denying that cosmic carnage sucks the big one). This reminds me my friend insists he has a genesis lockon game somehwere that ISNT sonic and knuckles. i told him id love to check it out and probably buy it off him. Anyone know if there was ever another lock on game released for genesis?

Are cart convertors exactly interchangeable? Because you could go back and forth, Genesis to MegaDrive to Genesis etc... I see in a couple of those pics that they're used two of certain carts, like the Game Genie or the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on cart; are they at least from different regions? I can't tell.

I'm also wondering if starting with a Laseractive would help with the height... Though I think maybe the 32X wouldn't work then?

Also, the original poster just said it had to work, not that it had to end up playing a Genesis game, so ending with a Power Base Convertor and SMS cart would probably be acceptable, eh? And didn't someone homebrew a (partial) convertor to play GG carts on SMS?

I wonder how tall it gets before the power getting through isn't enough to run the game though...

I think you can stack 32x systems on top of each other. Oh, you can modify a Power Base Converter to work with a 32x, right?

i dont think you can stack multiple 32x's because of the video pass through i have at least 2 so maybe ill give it a shot. Also laser actives pac plugs into the front so unless you stand it up on its back itll make a wide stack not a tall one.

The only information I've seen about running GG games on a SMS looked horrible. They turned out black and white and have video sync issues, but I guess technically it worked.

Something else to think about, at the top of a genesis tower there will always be some type of game. Which Genesis cart is the tallest? I know that unlike the SNES genesis carts were different heights, but which is tallest?

I wish I was at my parent's house right now (where most of my game stuff is stored) to take pictures of my Genesiscraper Segasandwich and show it off...

I have a model 1 Sega CD, with a model 1 Genesis on it, with a 32X on it, and I could easily insert a Game Genie, add a Sonic & Knuckles, and of course Sonic 2, but to make it taller wouldn't work with Virtua Racing, cause it won't work with the 32X, due to the fact that it contains an SVP chip, as the 32X does as well, which is why it won't work... throw 2 SVP chips at the monster, and its mind goes blank, but you could add Onslaught to Sonic & Knuckles and make it work, thanks to the Game Genie, but it would just let you play the Sonic bonus level, unless you inserted it under Sonic & Knuckles, but that would top the stack... however you could still play Onslaught, with the help of the Game Genie, if you inserted it in the 32X or the model 1 Genesis, unless you were lucky enough to have one of the 1st release model 1 Genny's, without the unlicensed software lockout... then you wouldn't need the Game Genie's help... now back to the Tower of Babel, if only that were a Genesis game, please someone make one, so I can use it to top my stack! does it ever get any better than Sonic 2 with Knuckles? TOWER OF BOTNIK!

but of course you can get taller than that, just replace Sonic 2 with any EA game... may I suggest Fatal Rewind? the acid is still rising, runner! go higher! but which is taller? Onslaught or Fatal Rewind?

I guess I just lost the game on a technicality, though technically I think I just won... you have to top the stack with either an Accolade game, or an EA game... unless there's something taller...
