Apparently someone waaaayyyyy smarter and more techno savvy than I has used the BD-J (Blue-ray Disc Java) exploit to run NES games on the PS3. BD-J basically allows bonus content on your Blur-ray disc titles. I just got through playing Zelda and it looked and played perfectly! Unfortunately there is no sound yet, but it is a work in progress. Very cool indeed!

Video and instructions. (http://ps3.qj.net/PlayStation-3-homebrew-gets-NES-emulator-Filer-v0-0-3-UPDATE-/pg/49/aid/123264) Have fun, and report back how well it works.
I read about this earlier today, it's cool to see, but I'm sure by the time there's sound Sony would have already released a patch.

Y'know, I keep forgetting you can put Linux on the PS3. It's like a blindspot for me.
So why no sound then? Are there no sound drivers?

Thanks for posting the link, Cosmic! I think this is a very early development and hope that sound support will soon follow. I was thinking about loading Linux onto my PS3 for the very reason of having emulators to play, but this looks pretty promising so far, so I will wait to see what happens. This new version is fullscreen at 16:9. It looks like it is in HD on my 32 inch HDTV!

Wow, can't get this to work. Seems simple yet ain't working for me.
Edit:
It wouldn't work with SD card and 60gb reader. Used psp usb mode and worked like a charm. So "any card will work" is not true.
Pretty cool, I'll have to try this sometime.

I wanna watch this closely. I'm not interested until there's sound emulation. Then I'll be VERY interested.

Looks like I'll be giving this a shot. Can't wait for more developments.
Now I just need a way to play NES on an unmodded 360 and all my next-gen machines can act as NES emus. :vamp:

Why is it that every single proof of concept video on the internet is filmed on a "Barbie My-First-Digital-Video-Recorder" with a resolution bordering on negative numbers, and by someone in the throws of an epileptic seizure?
Other than that, nice to see that this doesn't require an ACTUAL Blu-Ray+RW to run! When I heard the exploit was Blu-Ray Java based, I thought that would be necessary.
Thanks for the link.

When you install another operating system on the PS3, does it render it useless as a PS3 (not able to run PS3 games, etc)? As I think you would have been able to install linux and run an NES emulator on a PS3 from day one. I may be mistaken though, as I do not know much about this subject.

I was at a Linux installfest once, and someone had a ps3 with linux on it, and then they were playing an atv game about 15 minutes later, so I believe you can still use the ps3.

From what I understand it's dual bootable.

So much trouble... I've found that the original X-Box is best for this. Everything runs flawlessly. I haven't seen anything better.

Emulators running on the PS3 via an alternate operating system are crippled because access to a ton of hardware features is disabled. Which stinks. :(

Yeah that's because all the emus for the xbox are the same ones that have been in development on the pc for years. I just wish I could get an nes controller to work on my xbox (I have a nes usb controller). For whatever reason I hate using the xbox controller for nes games, but I do love save states (really the only reason for me to use emus).
