What are some good sites where I can order joystick assembly? The stick comes out and doesn't move around right. I don't want to get a whole new setup, just whatever will set the stick in place and (excuse my ignorance to part names) make it be able to click the little buttons that the square piece on the inside rubs up against (if that makes sense). Either way, could somebody please give me some sites to check for parts. I'll know what I need when I see it.

Happ.com and Lizardlick.com should have everything you need as far as sticks and assemblies go.

The "square piece on the inside that rubs up against the little buttons" is called an actuator. And I don't think anyone sells individual joystick parts, just the whole joystick itself.

Have you tried completely disassembling and reassembling the joystick base? Sometimes the spring gets stuck.

no I haven't tried that but it looks to be such an easy fix. If I had a camera and was at my house I would show you. I'm actually selling the machine and they asked if I could fix it before they buy it, so I need to spend as little time/money as possible (although they will pay for the parts, but maybe not a whole joystick.)

Edit: I've been told that I can go to a hardware store and buy an E-clip which could solve my problem with it, does that sound right to anybody?

joysticks are pretty cheap. should be able to get a pretty good replacement for about $15 if it doesnt wind up being an easy fix unfortunatly im not even sure what an eclip is.

Happ does sell individual parts on their website, but you would need to know what brand of stick you have.

well I found out you need a minimum of $25 order through happ so I went to the other site and got a happ stick for $15. Its a red competition 8-way stick, and I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be the right one for the MVS. It looks to be the same but you know how aftermarket stuff can be sometimes.

i was thinking that the competition joysticks were the closest to original neo geo mvs sticks so heres hoping it works out for you. Let us know.

I'm pretty sure Happ Supers are what was in the original cabs.

thing is, after looking at the exploded view of all the pieces that are in the competition sticks, it looks almost identical to what is already in there. The supers I think may be a bit better than that but I'm just trying to sell it and need it to work right first.

From my experience with my big red cab, the supers are actually far inferior to the Competitions, which I currently use. Supers have a much wider "throw" that it takes to actually impact the actuator. Competitions are a much tighter, precise stick that allows you to perform moves with much less effort it takes than on a Super.

I'd say your best bet is just to pick up two Comps being that will be about the cost of a minimum order. Besides, that way you get fresh new microswitches and the like.

I went to Lizardlick.com for one of thier happ comp sticks since I only need one. It ended up only costing like $14 shipped so I've already got it on the way. Probably easier to just go with that in the long run anyway because I won't be tinkering around with what I already have in there for hours. The comp stick seems to be what I'm looking for and I thank everybody for your help. If I have any more troubles, look for a bump of this thread for when I get it in, because I've never done anything on an arcade machine besides use them and *argh* move them.

heh, I feel your pain on the moving them part. I had to move all three of mine up to a third story apartment. I think my back hates me a little more each time.

My best advice for replacing sticks is simple, just make sure to label all of your wiring and grounds with masking tape so you can label their respective directions before unhooking them from the joystick. Assemble everything then just slide it in upside down through the CP, screw it in and you're set. Joystick, button, and power supply replacement is all pretty much plug and play as far as cab maintenance is concerned.

I figured as much, but I'm just the type of guy that will be cleaning a cart with rubbing alcohol and then end up dumping the whole bottle of it all over the place. Nice tip though and I'm sure I'll be able to get it working again soon. I mainly want to sell it because it doesn't get used much and I want to never have to move it to another apartment again. It definately takes AT LEAST two people to move it. I've always had 3+ people help me with it since they get to play the damn thing with no quarters anyways ha ha.

That's a shame you're getting rid of it, I don't think I have it in me to ever part with one heh.

I know what you mean though, every time I purchase a cab I try to get as many people to help as possible. The only cab I own that didn't take a least four people to move without a giving us a backache was the Super Neo 29 Candy, which surprisingly was easy to move with just two people due to the wheels in the back and handles on the side. Funny considering that cab has the largest monitor of the bunch.

Honestly, I feel the same way you do when it comes to thinking you're going to destroy everything while working on it. Though I'm not always the most competent in my abilities I've found the only way to really get over them is to jump right in and just do it. The only thing I think I'm totally uncomfortable with doing is any kind of monitor maintenance, as I don't especially feel the need to accidentally fry myself. Just getting near a monitor tube evokes feelings of paranoia that you might associate with vacationing in Chernobyl. :bigmac:

That said, if I had no problem replacing my hardware I can assure you that it'll be a breeze getting your new sticks wired up and ready to go. Also, congrats on getting the competitions, I just know you'll love them so much more than your stock supers.
