View Full Version : What complete gaming collections are you working toward?

So,in the process of going through my gaming collection - I started thinking just what systems I'm realistically trying to get a complete US (for me anyways) game collection. So for the purposes of this post - I'll put down what I someday hope to have, and then up to 3 systems that I'd love to own everything for.

Realistically:

Atari 7800 - With the two games I got today (Choplifter! & Karateka) I now own 27 CIB games for the system. I was lucky to get in on the O'Shea's .88 cent deal & get many of what I have. I happen to like the system,& the fact that it plays 2600 games is a big plus.

Sega CD - I don't know why I love this system so much.I've a soft spot for all those ultra-cheesy FMV games - & I actually bought this on the news of one game being released (Darkseed, which of course, never made it out...) I have 72 games so far, including Snatcher & most of the 10 rarest games.

Sega 32x - I got lucky getting Spiderman:Web Of Fire when it was released,so even though I don't own a lot of games - this goal is within reach. Currently at 11 games, including some CD ones...

Virtual Boy - Probably the 1st system I'll complete. The only things I'm missing are Panic Bomber & the US version of Vertical Force.

Xbox - I really can't explain why I like this system.Maybe the fact that I was finally able to play games with my internet pals.Anyways,at last check I'm at 144 games.

Intellivision - My 1st system that I ever had,and the main reason I have my love of videogames.Somehow, someday - I will own every official release complete in box.So far I'm at 107 CIB games (108,but no box for Turbo)

As for what I'd like to have (in my wildest dreams...) I can think of many systems that I like/love - NES,Genesis,N64,Vectrex...but there isn't any other choice then the Atari 2600/VCS. So many games, homebrews, protos & goodies still to this day being found - there really isn't another choice. If I ever part of some or most of my collection - the Atari stuff would be one of the last things to go.

Now it is your turn... :) What are you trying to complete?

As for now I'm shooting to complete a Neo Geo collection spread across MVS and AES. I'm not so particular that I need every game for both platforms, but as I collect for both I'd like to round out all 177 titles between the two over the next few years.

Also, a complete US Saturn collection would be nice to obtain down the road, it'd be easy enough to do as I've gotten most of the rarer titles out of the way, that's something I'll probably just chip at over time but I don't think it's a top priority.

My problem is that I like too much games on different system. I am more a player than a collector, so it pains me to buy games I know I will not play. Especially because I'm far from a rich guy...

But, If I had the money, I would like a complete Sega Mega Drive collection, or NES.

Sega Master System- I'm four games away from a complete NTSC set including rereleases, I need 100 or so more PAL games and I still have a long way to go with the Mark III games... and only one Korean game so far. I'm also going for a complete tec toy set, but that is going to take forever.

Sega Saturn- Just started collecting for this and I have a few boxed consoles and around 25 games including Panzer Saga and Shining Force III. I'm only going after NTSC for this one.

Nothing. When I first got into collecting in early 2004, I thought about going for a complete SNES collection, but then I decided not to do it for various reasons.

i only try for complete collections of things that are relatively easy to complete. So far sega 32x (just need a few more to put this one away, yes one of the few IS spiderman web of fire). other one im working on in hopes that it may actually see completion is atari jaguar if you dont count the non commercial releases i dont have all that much to go on it. of course if you add in the non commercial releases it becomes a much more daunting task (DAMN YOU BATTLESPHERE GOLD!!!). Though im not actively trying i think im actually pretty close to having all the first party intellivision games. I have a big chunk of the nes library (by my infrequently updated mental count probably 250 unique titles) this one however will NEVER see completion as im just not going to shell out for a few of those holy grail titles like stadium events or the nwc cart (gold OR grey) but i do have the blue repro of it which is good enough for me :).

Xbox & Xbox 360

My 2 favorite consoles.

Turbo Grafx - Always a sucker for great, unappreciated systems and Turbo takes the cake for me. With the majority of good games taking more than half the game library, the system potentially could have toppled both Nintendo and Sega in the early 90's console war. Too bad NEC tripped over themselves and couldn't catch up with the transition to 3D gaming.

Currently going for a complete fullset of US Turbo games (Hucard, manual, case, carton box, and all) is an expensive endeavor. I did manage to obtain 91 of 149 NTSC games, half of which are complete. With current financial problems, my collection growth has been put as a standstill.

If I ever find a copy of Evolution for the NGPC at a reasonable price, I'll probably finish off the UK Clamshell set. I have all of the major games, I'm just lacking all of the gambling/slot machine type games and a few sports and puzzle titles.

A UK Pocket Reversi would be cool, but I'll never spend the cash it goes for on eBay, especially considering the type of game it is. If it was something I was more interested in then maybe, but not for Reversi.

Right now...I don't know. I but whatever I see.

But I will admit that I would love to have complete games for the following consoles:

Atari 7800
Xbox

Not too exciting but I would like to finish my 32X and Odyssey 2 sets by the end of the year. Not sure how long it is going to take for SMS though. I have every US game but variants are taking longer than I originally thought. After these are done, I may go for Genesis, but a complete ColecoVision set would be nice...

NES, maybe SNES, other then that I can easily just get the fun games for each system. But theres something about the NES that makes me want to seek out and own even the crappiest of games, I dunno.

As long as we're only counting games and not demos:

I have complete collections of:
a. PlayStation One
b. Game.com
c. Turbo Grafx 16 / Turbo Duo

I will eventually finish complete sets for:
a. Sega CD
b. Sega Saturn
c. Dreamcast
d. Maybe Wii (I'm at 100 games...)

I will never have a complete set of NES games, even though I only need 17 more, Panesian not included. The ones left are 2k moniez.

I was shooting for N64 for a while but then the local stock dried up and I didn't feel like overpaying online (or buying lots and selling duplicates). Since then, I haven't really felt the urge to go for any complete sets.

Maybe I'll break down and go for the PSP at some point, though? Who knows!

Oh, and maybe Lynx.

I have 4 systems that I am one item away from completing.

SMS - need Buster Douglas manual
Virtual Boy - need box and manual for Galactic Pinball
7800 - need complete Tank Command
Sega CD - need complete Keio Flying Squadron

Other than those, I would have to say I am trying to complete Saturn, NES, and N64 currently.

Stuff I'm working on:

NES - have all the carts, as of today, I need 5 boxes (Stadium Events, Myriad, Mario's Time Machine, Kid Klown, Sword Master), and a lot of manuals

SNES - Still need about 200 CIB games

GameBoy Color - About half done

And to a lesser extent, GameBoy, GameCube, GameBoy Advanced, GameBoy DS. I just pick up games for those systems when I see them for cheap.

So far, I am at 12 complete(at least the games)US collections. I have completeted these so far:

Odyssey 2(complete CIB)
Sega CD(complete CIB)
Sega 32X(complete CIB)
Sega Genesis(missing 9 manuals for CIB set)
Sega Master System(missing 3 manuals for CIB set)
Nintendo NES 8-bit(liscensed US set, missing panesians for unliscensed set)
Nintendo 64(missing 8 manuals for CIB set)
RCA Studio II(CIB, no I dont have Bingo like everyone else :))
Game.com(CIB)
N-Gage(CIB, including the online exclusives)
Action Max(Small set of 5 games, Blue Thunder being the hardest to get)
Nuon(All CIB, my Iron Soldier 3 was the freebie they were giving out)

subset of all the e-reader games also acquired

I am going for the following, but I know that it will take some time
Turbo Grafx Turbo Duo US set(offically 13 away now)
Sega Dreamcast(like 50 or so away)
Atari 7800(5 away, I have tank command)
Virtual Boy(one away, Jack Bros)
Laseractive(I have 9, but know someone who will sell me the rest)
Sega Saturn(like 100 away, and will be there for awhile)
Game Gear(I collect cart only for this, and I am only like 15 away from a US set)
Neo Geo Pocket-like 5 away

I also want to wrap up my Playstation Longbox set. I am about 14 away from a US set.

Holy crap people in here must be either
a)Really Rich
b)A good scavenger
c)Someone who doesnt mind colecting crappy games
d)A lucky bastard for inhering all this
e)Someone who is a collecting nut

I thought that my video game museaum idea would be impossible, but somehow with the power of DP memebers....there is a possibility.

I'm 4 away from a complete Odyssey2 collection (I've Got Your Number!, Nimble Numbers Ned!, Great Wall Street Fortune Hunt!, and (obviously) POWER LORDS!).

I've almost completed a Sega CD collection TWICE, but now i'm down to ~45 games. I'll complete it one day, hopefully.

After 24 fullsets, i'm working "maybe" towards a PC Engine Hucard/CD/SCD/ACD/Supergrafx FACTORY SEALED fullset, replacing my used games slowly 1 by 1 with factory sealed copies.

I'd probably work towards a Famicom CIB fullset as well.

Working towards...

US Turbografx-16/Turbo Duo - I'm trying to get all of these CIB where the HuCards have the outer cardboard boxes. I'm a LONG ways off from finishing this anytime soon.

US Neo Geo Pocket/ Neo Geo Pocket Color - I wouldn't mind having the complete run of this system's games but I think I should clarify I'm interested in a complete run of English games for the system, complete in box. I already have Faselei! and Cotton, just need to snap up Evolution.

The only complete collection I have currently is the E-Reader cards. I don't have a complete E-Reader collection of every card ever made, but I have all of the games that were released. Aside from the two systems listed above, I just can't bring myself to pursue complete runs of titles for systems in my current economic state. I imagine if I had a largely disposable income, from say lottery winnings or the like, and the space to put it all then I would definitely change my tune.

I guess the only ones that I would say I'm trying for are the Intellivision and maybe the TG-16. I'm not very far with either of them.

I thought about trying for a complete collection at one point but I found that I enjoy collecting systems more than games. I'd rather get a selection of games for multiple systems than a bunch of games for one system.

I'm not into full collections.

Too expensive, and it's just collecting for collecting's sake, which I don't do either. I only get games that seem interesting to me.

I have only recently started collecting all of the Raidens in cart form. I have, so far, the Atari Jaguar, Turbo Grafx 16, and the Sega Genesis versions. I want the Atari Lynx and the SNES versions next. I have also thought about collecting all of the shoot'em ups for the NES, SNES, Turbo Grafx 16, and Sega Genesis. Although I do have a good start on some systems, I have just started with the Genesis first. Truxton should arrive in my mail box this next week. My collecting is mostly genre orientated. RPGs would probably be my next adventure in collecting.

A full CIB Genesis set. I'm at around 200 games or so, with most of the really rare games already, like Aero 2, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, Action 52.

I'm also very slowly working on a DS set, and trying to complete my Castlevania set.

I'm not really a completist, but I am trying to work on a CIB Mark III/Japanese SMS collection. So far I've got a Japanese SMS, Family Games, Galactic Protector and Space Harrier. I'm still not quite sure how to pick up more without resorting to a YHJ middleman like Rinkya.

I guess I'm working on PlayStation. I'm only 500 games away... (before variants, before GH and random other things I don't have).

I need to pin down all the other variants for the NGPC and DC that I don't have, which is next to nothing for both systems. Any normal person would call them complete collections already.

I'm at 50% of the DS library currently, but i'm not in the hunt to get em all. I think thats about it, otherwise its just obtain what I want.

Full collections:
N-Gage NTSC complete collection (minus the download only games, I have all mmc card games)
Virtual Boy NTSC complete collection (Thanks Joe!)

Ones I really want to finish bad:
These are the ones that I enjoy enough that I will probably go back sometime to pound away at them:
Dreamcast NTSC
N64 NTSC
Saturn NTSC (SF3 and PDS will suck since I have not gotten them yet)
Game.com NTSC

Non-full console/system collections
Completed:
All Capcom Games for N64
All Star Wars Games for N64
All South Park Games for N64
All Star Wars Games on GC

working on:
All Tony Hawk Games without being console specific and not counting portables (only need Tony Hawk 2X for X-Box)
All Sega Games for X-Box 360
All Sega Sports NFL Games on Genesis (Just need Prime Time)

The closest one I have to finishing is Virtual boy CIB. Only need Jack Bros., Nester's, and Vertical Force. That will hopefully be finished soon. I'd really like to get that done, cause I've been trying for about a year now.

The other one is SNES. I'm going for a loose collection, cause I don't care that much about boxes. I have some CIB still, but that's just additional to the collection.

Other ones I may want to finish are Odyseey 2 CIB (been picking up games when I see them, never looked into this too much), Genesis, Sega CD (would really like to do this), and Saturn. Saturn would take a while, since I only have 3 games for it right now. Mostly just want to finish VB and SNES.

well...Just like someone said already, there is too many games I'd like from too many systems. I have a hard time sticking to one thing, I always change my mind. BUT...I am trying to get a complete US Dreamcast collection with all the sega all star versions too. So far I'm not too far into it but thats because I'm trying to pick out the more expensive games first. Then if I find a good deal on a DC game, I'll get it, I'm not gonna overpay just to have the whole collection.

I was never into getting complete collection… too many maddon and sport electronic arts game to fathom…

BUT I have casually been trying to get a USA Turbo Grafx 16/Turbo Duo official full library… been at it since 1990!

I had completed the CD end of it a few years ago of 44 titles.

I am about 60-70 percent complete in the hucards.
I got most of the rare out of the way too…

Best thing of why I considered to aim for a Turbo set… only one Maddon game LOL

Other collection I was working on was a Working Designs collection… but I honestly give up as I will NEVER get a Elemental Gearbolt Assassins case… :(
Otherwise I did get one of every game they released (not including disc variations) including Growlanser regular and deluxe, and Lunar SSSC fan edition (sealed and autographed by Victor Ireland) and deluxe edition.

Gotta agree there. I couldn't bring myself to complete a collection for most systems just because I don't even want to own a single Madden, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB..... The ones I do have were all donated as parts of various game lots so I can't really complain about that.

I'm kind of going for a complete Core Design collection. Not with every port or anything, just one version of every game of theirs. For some reason I really like their games. Normally, I only get games I want to play, but with Core, they've only done three or four games I don't care for (all of which are dirt cheap and common), so I might as well just get them. I already have quite a few. I do have some "big holes" in my Core collection (Rick Dangerous, Jaguar XJ220), but I'm not in a huge hurry or anything.

I have enough games and a lot of the "hard" games that I could conceivably go for a complete US Saturn collection, if it weren't for Daytona USA CCE Netlink Edition. But, even regardless of that one game, I don't really want to.

Is that a demo version of the game, in that it has limited gameplay, or is it just a normal cart with a very minor label variation? If it's the latter, I can't see myself spending $140 on that. I've seen that not for resale on a lot of regular gameboy titles, such as Kirby's Blockball, and that only went for like $10 on ebay and the seller had a ton of copies. Bleh.

Looking through a Videogame Collector's Magazine the other day, I realized that I was only a handful of titles away from completing my Atari 7800 collection. Motorpsycho, the two Froggo games, and a couple of sports titles are the only ones left. And I was amazed by how close I am to completing my Atari Jaguar collection. A dozen titles are all I need, if that. Battlesphere would be the hardest to get, considering I can't justify that much money for a game. (Unlike most people who own it, I don't consider the game a financial investment for later reselling, I consider it a fun space blaster that I only get to play at game conventions.)

Agreed, but I decided a long while back to do this with the 7800, since there's only like 50 games total. You pretty much need every game there is if you even want a variety of games - there's really not much to choose from.
