Was wondering if anyone had a newer psp or the new madden special edition one. I thought I read you can hook the psp up to your tv and watch and play stuff. Is this correct? If it is has anyone tried it and how does it look?

All the new ones can do that apparently - I haven't done it myself yet as I've got two older PSPs and haven't felt the need to spring for a new one.

Yes, that is correct...however, you do need to buy the correct cables in order to do so. You should be able to find these cables at any gaming store GameCrazy, GameStop, etc.
All you need is PSP component cables and a TV that allows for component. A sample pic can be found here: http://www.mp4converter.net/images/upload/psp-2000_2.JPG

The older model PSPs have the same plug-in on the bottom of the system also, so I don't see why the older PSPs wouldn't hook up to your TV as well.

Okay, here's the low down on what you can do with what.

With a PSP Slim you can do the following:

If you have a set of Composite cables and ANY TV:

Navigate the XMB
Use the web browser
Play music off of the memory stick
Look at pictures off of the memory stick
Play movies off the memory stick
Play movies off of a UMD

If you have a set of Component cables and a NON-PROGRESSIVE SCAN TV component inputs:

Navigate the XMB
Use the web browser
Play music off of the memory stick
Look at pictures off of the memory stick
Play movies off the memory stick
Play movies off of a UMD

If you have a set of Component cables and a PROGRESSIVE SCAN TV with component inputs:

Navigate the XMB
Use the web browser
Play music off of the memory stick
Look at pictures off of the memory stick
Play movies off the memory stick
Play movies off of a UMD
Play games off of the memory stick
Play games of a UMD

Games played on a Progressive Scan TV will be bordered on all sides with a black border, but do they look crisp, clean and colorful.

My TV (52 inch 1080 Panasonic LCD) has a "zoom" mode which I usually use to get rid of the borders, and it still looks pretty decent.

The older model PSP's do not have what it takes in the hardware itself to do TV out...so only the PSP Slim models can do this.

It's just a headphone jack on the older models.

Thanks for the corrent info, it's much appreciated. I have only ever owned the newer PSP so I was unaware of all the features/nonfeatures of the older models.

Yeah, I personally really liked the build quality of the original model, but the deal breaker(s) are that the older model does not do TV out and it also has half the memory...so slower UMD load times (no UMD caching) and no Skype.
