So, I've played this Famicom Disk System game and it is awesome, but no one seems to have it.

I did see one place selling it for $25 with everything, but I don't know if it's a good deal or not.

Anyone else ever play this game? It's kind of like Rez in eight bit.

$25 doesn't seem too bad for a complete FDS game, but I don't know about the rarity of that one, either. For example, Zelda goes for around $40 complete, Metroid is around 25-30, and I just paid $10 for nazo no murasamejou.

Mind you, this is all without shipping included.

Also, tell me more about this game-- I'm interested?

Oh wait, it's not complete.

Still might get it eventually, though.

Okay, so it's made by the same guy who made Electroplankton, and is kind of like a precursor Rez. It uses the FM Synthesis Chip inside the Disk System for better sound.

I had honestly never heard of any of this or the designer before, but it seems like it would be lots of fun. All of his (her?) games look so bizarre!

Also, just looked it up to find a complete one. As far as I can tell, Otocky is a weird FDS game in that it has a gigantic instruction manual. No idea what the original box might have looked like, but that $25.00 one looks more appealing upon realizing that it might not have the standard littlebox + disk + sleeve + disk-size instructions.

So THAT'S why I couldn't find a complete copy anywhere. It has to be worth at least $50-$60 complete.

Yeah, the $25 only comes with the Disk, the case, the sleeve, and the front cover.

considering that there don't seem to be any on the entire internet complete (the "sorta complete" one in the picture is actually from yahoo auctions japan), I would be happy with the Case-and-disk-and-art bit... for now. Maybe I'll buy this game once I've filled out some of the more famous titles for my FDS (read as "I need to buy metroid first because I hate that stupid password system on the american cartridge").

Just go to japangamestock.com, it's $16 with shipping.

Speaking of JGS, I'm trying to get them to stock Otocky by requesting it repeatedly.

Go for it. I'll join you once I have a Metroid, but I'm picky-- JGS doesn't seem too concerned over whether it has the outerbox/instructions or not, as far as i could tell, so I would only use that if all else failed :(

EDIT FOR MY FAIL: They do have one with intructions listed, and outer case. Um... never mind...?

Finally got around to picking this up-- thanks for mentioning it here, else I would never have heard of it, probably. Amazing game.

So lucky.

Where did you get it and how much did it cost? Is it complete?

There's ONE copy on eBay, for 50 Euros.

i'm not aclbandit, but i got a complete and slightly worn copy of otocky on yahoo japan for about $25. they crop up now and then; not every day for sure but if you just keep an eye open, a decent copy will roll around soon enough.

if you're looking for any even remotely uncommon fds games, i'd say don't bother with ebay. sellers jack the prices way up to compensate for how few people buy this stuff. and hey, it's japanese and in a fancy box so it must be worth big monies right?

Yeah, they are pretty cheap on Yahoo! Auctions Japan, but I'm not sure if they ship overseas. I've seen several sites that specialize in helping English speakers bid on Japanese auctions, but Yahoo Auctions has their own English site.

If your still looking for a copy of Otocky, you might want to keep your eye on famicomshop.com (http://famicomshop.com). I scored a complete one there a couple months ago. Otocky is a seriously fun and unique game, and it has the biggest packaging of any Disk System game I have ever seen.

If you don't mind a disc only copy, I see there is one currently on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Nintendo-Famicom-Disk-System-Otocky-Iwai-FDS_W0QQitemZ350189400061QQihZ022QQcategoryZ1488QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

Good luck!

Thanks, I'm still on the lookout for Disk System stuff, but it's not my #1 priority now.

I'll get Otocky eventually, it was the whole reason I got a Disk System, really...

Sorry for the unbelievably slow reply.

BUT, btw, the place where schnuth got his/hers is the same place I got mine. So keep a lookout! Great game, though I still haven't beaten the last level.
