just bought it, - A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !!!
I bought all of the 360 arcade titles over the summer and - CC IS THE BEST XBLA TITLE EVER!
awesome adventure(I'm in 4th level, tall grass forest), rpg elements, awesome graphics, moody with suiting music, - game is a total blast!
get it NOW!
totally worth the 3 year waiting period

people post your impressions, whether you played full version or demo.
going back to CC ^^

ps.as a side note, here's the "prequel" to castle crashers that was released in 1991 on Amiga, at least the vibe I'm getting off of it(it's an amazing adventure rpg game as well, although not a sidescroller as cc is):

ps.ign just posted review for cc, 9/10:

I was looking looks nice It look liked there asking 15.00 like braid. I guess any game that looks like it is going to be a 9 is going to to be 15.00.

I could feel the 10.00 on a download but 15.00 I feel I need a hard pressed cd. LOL

I'm also excited about this one ... it's been a while since I bought a great XBLA game.

Marcus's response to the answer of how long the game has been in development is effing priceless.

well, alien hominid was good, so this will probably be a purchase for me sometime in the near future

well, alien hominid was good,

...but too damn difficult to finish (I have the GC version). Is this game going to pull the same shit? I have no problem with different difficulty levels, but when the easiest is still way too hard, the game gets old...quick. I've been wondering if Castle Crashers was going to be cut from the same cloth.

EDIT:

I just read the review and I guess I have an answer...

This isn't a challenge at the level of Alien Hominid. This is a game you can beat. Even with your bad eye and sweaty thumbs. Yes, you can beat this game.

I'm gonna download the demo this morning.

Edit: This game seems pretty awesome. I might purchase it. I also like the shopkeeper that says, "Buy somethin will ya."

You're a sales rep for Tylenol arn't you? That looking looks hurts. LOL
I'll take 'Looked' for the block. :rocker:

The list of XBLA games I want is now longer than the list of retail games I want... I just found that to be funny. :D Maybe I should just buy a used one with a broken disk drive on the cheap.

The demo was awesome, but Tales of Vesperia comes out today so even if I bought this today I wouldn't get around to playing it. I WILL get it eventually.

Well worth the 1200 points.

If only the online portion wasn't a mess it would be fun to actually play.

I bought Castle Crashers today, and I have to say: it's brilliant. The actual game part is basically Final Fight with leveling, but the humor and pacing is utterly fantastic. It's actually a funny game, which is rare in and of itself, but I played with my little brother and had a blast laughing and shouting. It's the best 'group of friends on the couch' game I've played in a long time.

Tomorrow we get a person on all four controllers. I'm looking forward to it.

Not going to lie, it was quite fantastic. I pretty much have to agree with everything here. A beat-em-up game with a couple of RPG elements plus nonsensical humor and an Alien Hominid reference.

sorta brings me back to playing guardian heroes on my saturn. I played the demo and may (when I have some money) buy it

I went ahead and bought it, and enjoy it so far though I do suck at it a bit. I'll definetly get my money's worth out of it though (can't wait to play online! didnt see anyone on though when I tried)

See, it's the release of games like Castle Crashers that make it impossible for me to stay in a spending hiatus, regardless of how badly I need it. I love BEUs so damn much, and CC has exceeded my expectations. It is best reminiscent of Capcom's impressive Dungeons and Dragons games based on the genre. Excellent graphics and animation, incredibly awesome music, and so much FUN overall! I also find it challenging: While the use of health potions can definitely regulate its difficulty, I still find some situations, particularly boss battles (and one in particular as part of the penultimate fight, a certain horrible beatdown from nearly every enemy in the game) to be massive fights that leave me no choice but to resort to some devious strategies. Speaking of bosses, I lost count. Just how many are there in this game?! I count every major enemy that has its own life meter as a boss, so if anyone has tallied them all up, let me know. I do love boss fights, that's for sure. :D

I find it interesting that The Behemoth takes a very straightforward genre and adds so many layers upon it. Seriously, Alien Hominid, with sixteen stages overall, is longer than the average action game. Castle Crashers, with... erm, a lot of shit, is far longer than the average BEU. With its non-linear interface, it could perhaps be considered more of an action-RPG in some aspects. And there's like... twenty different playable characters? Damn, doing everything in this game can takes hours upon ages upon eons upon chronological distortions! O_O

It's $15 well-spent. If I didn't just go back to college, I would enjoy the hell out of it for the remainder of my now-passed summer break. I wonder if the developers already have a third game in mind? They've already handled two of my favorite ever genres (run-n-gun and beat-em-up), so I'm hoping for them to do a shoot-em-up in the vein of Gradius or R-Type next. Tom, Dan, ya listenin'? :)

We just beat Castle Crashers tonight; fifteen bucks well spent. So far it's my DL game of the year.

Played the demo last night and liked it alot. It reminds me a lot of Odin Sphere with a bigger lean towards Final Fight. My only problem is that it took me too long to kill even the easiest enemies. Like they would get up four or five times. When each screen is just another wave of enemies this can get tedious quickly.

yeah, I bought it on wednesday and beat it the same day hehe.
mind you I didn't try co-op as I was playing single player so no troubles with online component of the game.
just got update that behemoth is going to release patch soon so we'll be able to enjoy it online without any problems.
I didn't thought anything would be able to beat braid this year as far as xbla titles go, but castle crashers is just amazing in every aspect and with tons of things to do, takes the cake.
if you haven't bought it and you have a 360, you are a fool ^_~

Oh man. Bloody tough choice between CC and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. But since I just wrote a massive article for the latter, maybe I could give a shot at the former as well? :D

I enjoyed the Demo, but I don't think I can justify the cost for it. This seems odd to me because I bought Braid without hesitation. Will probably be a drunken night purchase some time in the near future.

Castle Crashers is rocking my world.

Finally, a modern game developer that GETS IT. And when I say gets it, I mean, seems to know exactly what I enjoy in a game. A great, unique art style, 2d hand drawn visuals, awesome, varied gameplay, excellent multiplayer, great "pick up and play" playability, character progression and experience, hidden items, easter eggs and goodies...

I have a hard time believing that any old school gamer would have a hard time enjoying this one. And if you do, play it online or with a friend. That should change your mind.

That it would, assuming you can get the lobby screen to appear. Or having it glitch up and bringing you back to the main menu. Repeat the log-in screen and try to get a lobby screen again only to have it freeze up and no buttons work, with the only way out via exiting to the dashboard. Worse would be when it glitches in the online menu and just freezes the 360. Then if you can connect to a host room. Then if you don't get dc'ed once everyone readies up and the game loads up. Or after it loads and you choose a character and it moves on to the map screen. Or simply getting dc'ed some odd minutes after joining and playing through a level.

Yeah, and might wanna becareful with the Alien Hominid character and the pitchfork, unless you want to rid of his gun forever or like restting stats you've built up with him.

Bought it tongith and played it with my cousins until we beat it. It's a brilliant game. A labor of love by people who LOVE old school games. Take a little Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage, Gauntlet, Guardian Heroes, Battletoads, and Three Dirty Dwarfs... mix them up and you get CASTLE CRASHERS.

It was a complete joy to play. Inspired levels and creative bosses around ever corner. I love the RPGS elements and animal familiars are the icing on the cake. You cannot call yourself a gamer and not own this game!

Lots of fun and humor galore.

Too bad online play is borked, but they said in their blog that they are working on it. I'll play it again when they fix it.

Downloaded the demo and played it a few times. I like how you can keep going through the same area and leveling up that way. When I get a reliable connection and some $ im going to dl the full version.

Wise fwom yo gwave. Yes I am quite late to the party on this one, but after reading up on this game's history of online issues, maybe it's a good thing I never took it online until last Wednesday. I didn't run into any issues at all, though I did read about a level 256 glitch that's causing The Behemoth to crank out another patch pretty soon.

Blah blah blah anyway I wasn't thrilled with this game until I tried multiplayer online. Now I love it. Anyone still playing this game send me a message on XBL. I have a Hominid to level up. Hell, I have everyone but the Orange Knight to level up.

I don't even know how long i'd have to play to get a character to 256... I think i've beaten the game with my green knight, but I was working through it with the Alien as well.

I just picked up Castle Crashers and realized it has two expansions, Necromantic Pack and King Pack. Are these worth getting? How much content do they add?

They add a two characters, like three weapons, and an animal each.

Merging into the existing Castle Crashers thread, as this isn't covered in the standard thread and would fit perfectly in here.

That's all? No extra levels or anything? Seems kinda lame. At least I know not to waste any points now, thanks.

Totally worth it, the characters are awesome.

But yeah I unlocked everything in this game because it's amazing.
