I snagged a demo of Tiger Woods 2008 today for the pc. Pretty fun considering I haven't played a golf game in years. The trueswing does take some getting used too, especially if you're more used to the double/triple click style of old.

Now my question is, if one was to get one of the Woods games for pc or ps2, which would be the better to get and how does swinging your club in the ps2 work?

I'd say TW 2003-2005 are the best. I tried 06 & 07 and it felt like they screwed the game up.

Tiger 09 is out now and available for the PS2. I've only played the 360 version to date, but its the best title in the franchise. No Tiger Vision, adaptive skill levels, putting assistance (but not hand holding), and a great selection of courses. It also has alternative 3 button push controls if you're not a fan of the analog swing.

I've never been a fan of the putting in the PGA Tour series :(

I didn't like the way they'd falsify skill at the game by introducing severe luck into it.

Example, we rented the Wii one. Horrible graphics obviously, but we got something like 3 100+ yard "chips" into the hole in the first game alone - because we were playing as Tiger.

It kinda takes a lot of the fun away when it's the game - not you - that's making those shots.

I received 03 for my Xbox as an Xmas gift way back when it was new, and *loved* it. I've played it enough that my character has the same stats as Super Tiger Woods, and the only money I earn with that character now goes into his bank.

So I would recommend that one for sure.

I bought 07 for my 360, and while I like it I haven't put the time into it that I put into with 03. I think it's definitely tougher getting through the various events and earning money. With 03, you could make enough money to buy stats and blow through challenges (i.e. grinding). Grinding in 07 is either tougher or I just haven't spent enough time with it yet.

I like 07 enough that I'd recommend it too, though I'd rater it lower than 03.

Interestingly, I just bought Tiger Woods 2005 about a week ago. I like it though I haven't played into it that much yet.

I HATED the putting in '07. It was clunky and a major pain in the ass.

Is '08 any different? I see it cheap now, but I won't touch it if the putting is like '07's.

The analog swing is so much better than the lame, old 3 button pushing... In my opinion. ;)

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play was just released for the Wii on August 26. It is supposed to be great and makes use of 1:1 golf swing motion controls. According to IGN:

"It looks better. It plays a great deal better thanks to improved swing mechanics that capture that one-to-one sensation. And it's packed full of more content than ever before, including new Wii-exclusive mini-games and a truly fabulous online component."

According to Nintendo Power:

"The one-to-one swing mechanics are phenomenal and offer lots of customization options to cater to players of all skill levels."

I own 2003 on the Gamecube and it's a great golf game.

Having said that, I haven't played one since 2003, except for a few minutes of the 2006 demo on 360, and I didn't like that one.

Tiger Woods 2004 for PS2 is $5.99 at Gamestop. Worth trying out?

At that price? Sure. Pick up Hot Shots Golf 3 or 4 while you're at it if you can find them cheap enough for your budget. If you have an Xbox, snag Links 2004 regardless of price. :)

Ah Links 2004, quite possibly the best console golf game out there. I loved that game, played quite a bit of it back in the day. As for TW games 2003 saw a lot of play time with me. I currently have 2007 on the PS3 and do not intend to buy another in the series until they kill off the online play on that one.

I can't believe that Microsoft killed off the team while they were working on Links 2005. Shame they weren't able to spin back off into an independent entity like Bungie has done, but at least a lot of them were able to reform into a pretty sweet new company (http://www.trugolf.com/). Too bad I'll probably never be able to afford to check out their latest endeavor. :(

They need to become licensed Wii developers, stat.

So for 2004, can you switch between a two-three click system or is it just an analog swing system and how does that work for the ps2 version?

wow, 2004 is even cheaper on Amazon!

I believe 2008 was the first since the series began as PGA Tour Golf to bring back the 3 click swing. TW 2004 uses the left analog stick on the controller to take your swing.

Does anyone have Tiger Woods for the DS? I've been thinking of getting some golf games for that portable. I think they did two editions for DS, right? I have Swing Away Golf coming but if someone will recommend one or the other Tiger for the DS, I would probably get that, too.
