Well, I didn't expect that honestly...how quickly the current slim is being discontinued (Sept!) that is. Discuss!

It's sad...Sony is desperately trying to push the PSP by offering different variations.

It does not bother me that they have upgraded the system. The PSP has been a good first attempt for Sony into the handheld, although I think that it underestimated the success(like all of us) of the DS. This will be the version that I ultimately will buy, due to its enhanced screen and TV out.

i'm half tempted to upgrade again to the 3000 since i do play and use my psp a lot. but what bugs me is that they are selling a better battery that lasts about 8-10 hours seperately instead of with the system compared to the crummy 3-4 hour battery.

Bah @ Sony. I'll buy a new PSP when they can make the battery life match the DS.

I just spent alot of money for my 1000 along time ago, sigh. PSP isn't even quite good. You can get all the games (better) on a different console. They need something that only the PSP can touch.

Haha, good one.
(at least I hope you were joking)
The 3000 sounds pretty darn nice and I might consider upgrading. The higher contrast screen is a biggie and the ability to play games over composite is a total selling point for me. Wouldn't hurt to have a second PSP in the house anyway for when friends come over and want to get a couple of rounds of HSG Open Tee 2 in, too.

Well, I have three 2000's (two recently purchased...GOW and Madden) and I have NO regrets. They have no dead pixels (took a few returns to accomplish this!) and they are all CFW modded.
I know that Sony is planning to really push the PSP with new games that will supposedly make people go "Wow, THIS is in PSP?"...and that is all good. I also know that to gain the trust of third party developers, Sony has to uphold the fact that they are completely for protecting their assets. It is just my opinion, but I still believe this upgrade is more about crushing the piracy issue than anything else...even if they do want to mask it with a mic and a new and improved screen.
The screen will be a welcome thing for sure, but homebrew will definitely not be.

No doubt, there's only so much you can do to combat piracy through firmware pushes. Curious what steps they took to cut off the traditional exploits (especially the service battery exploit). I'm looking forward to reading the full on reports once the hardware rolls out and people start playing with it.

From what people are saying, it will most likely use the new CPU & mainboard that the new "unhackable" PSP's coming out of Japan now are using. These will not allow the "magic stick" to load...well the new CPU does not let the IPL load. If they are not using this particular CPU in the 3000, you can bet that it will have the same lockout applied to whatever CPU it may use. This could possibly be the end of the whole Pandora business....and people will have to go back to actually hacking and looking for exploits <gasp!> :)

Does this mean my PSP Model 2000 is now a hot RARE collectible? Ebay lolz... Well, I guess I'll just enjoy my 2 bright blue pixels and use the system to death so I can justify purchasing a 3000 with its much improved screen.

I had a silver slim, and LOVED it!! However, I sold it to buy the GOW pack, and with the move just haven't gotten it yet. Glad I didn't because they are addressing my ONLY complaint... Using that screen outside!

I guess alot of people like playing outside...
Not me. If I'm outside it's at work unloading a truck (heh) or off duty at the park/beach/shopping etc with my wife and daughter. I really only play the PSP indoors myself, usually laxing on the couch.

I better start saving up for a 2000. I want one that I can mod. Emulators and all the other stuff you can do with a modded one sound better than one with a slightly improved screen.
I've also managed to pick up one of the extended battery kits. Those were discontinued as well. Only two places left in town had them. I don't understand why Sony decided to discontinue those batteries as well.

That video claims that the extended battery life batterys were NOT discontinued, they're likely just being re-packed with PSP3000 specific boxes and internal hardware that will prevent them from being pandora modded.
The updates look great. Beautiful screen, TV output gameplay on a composite screen, and built in mic with NO price increase?
Well hot damn. Color me impressed.
I'm looking forward to adding a PSP 3000 to my collection when it launches - I don't have Ratchet and Clank yet, so that set will likely be the way I go.

Not so much just outdoors, but anywhere with a large amount of light. It was the same thing at the office with all the flourecent lights. Or if the wife and I went on a long drive and I tried to play in the car.

Yeah because no other video game company deploys tactics like that.

THEY LET YOU RETURN IT FOR A DEAD PIXEL!??! This is grand my friend tried pretty hard for 2 weeks contacting best buy and sony who were like stop being a bitch and embrace your dead pixel. I wonder if theyll fix that problem with these new screens, think about how many probably dont make the QC cut. This will save sony a bunch of money in the long run i bet.

I may actually buy this one. I'm not sure if there is going to be a package deal with a gae and movie but being able to play games on tv without the progressive scan has pretty much sold me.

I purchase from Walmart and/or Target. They never refuse a return. Target has a 90 day return policy. I'm not going to shift the thread to this old dead horse, but a dead pixel is a *defect*, regardless of the "nature" of LCD screens. Dead pixels are not intended at manufacturing time...so...
Anyway, I'm sure the new one will be plagued with the same issue if past experience with the PSP says anything to me.

Bookmarked for future reference.

If you thought it was annoying talking to someone while they have you on speakerphone, just wait until someone calls you from their PSP.
But seriously, who the hell would use that little mic for in-game voice chat instead of a headset?

Hmmmn,
As I've got the white Darth Vader slim I was thinking of getting the red God of War version to leave at my folks place for when I'm visiting..... No dead pixels on mine (knock on wood)
had fun playing PS1 games on it via my PS3 except any games where you had to read the text....
Getting a game system is like getting a car, the minute you buy it , it's not worth what you paid for it for quite a while...

I have never tried the composite out for the psp-2000 but I thought you could play games on a tv with it! You can't?
Wtf man, that's the main reason I wanted the slim now I find out it's video only? Man, they pulled a fast one there!
Not cool.

It only played games through component out. The 3000 supports composite for those who do not have component connections on their display devices.

And your display has to be progressive scan capable, there are plenty of 480i CRT's out there with component inputs that won't allow you to output games through component on your PSP 2000. That's fixed now with the PSP 3000. :)

As much as people hate Sony, I give them a hell of a lot of credit for "evolving" their hardware be it through firmware/software updates or high-profile hardware revisions like this. (Yes, I know, Nintendo does that too with their handhelds.)
If you compare what a PSP could do out of the box at launch to what it can do now with the forthcoming 3000 version (with a continually DROPPING price point as well) ... well, it's pretty impressive IMO.
Same goes for PS3, but this thread is about PSP.

I have the LE Mario Kart DS but I just picked up a LE Pokemon DS Lite. The thought of buying a PSP never crossed my mind and I already had a DS.
I want one but I'll wait until I find a used one. If it was cart I'd have thought about a PSP.
I agree that UMD is the game-breaker here.

I've never avoided purchasing a game system based on the media format it used.
Then again, I've never avoided purhcasing a game system.

Well I still have my white Vader PSP Slim and it I'm satsified with it, even though I use it mostly for music than gaming. While the new additions sound great, I just don't feel the urge to shell out for a third PSP.

The d-pad still looks awful. Why can't they change the d-pad? Don't they know it sucks?
