I need personal opinions. I am thinking about getting a PS3. Do you believe in upgrading from a PS2 to a PS3, due to a few new games that are 10 out of 10 star rating? My PS2 is still working well and I have around 100 games for it. I have only completed about 35 of them. I still enjoy most of the games, but I am looking forward to FFXIII. So those few that have gone to a PS3 was it worth it? I believe their is about 750 PS2 games out there, I am not really sure of the amount of games though. So I could still enjoy the PS2 after Sony has stopped making games for it. What would you recommend and your opinion in this matter?

well I don't have a ps3 yet (for a reason) if I were you I'd hold off and beat some of those ps2 games (and maybe buy some more) and wait for the ps3 to build a better library and for the hardware and games to fall in price

Well, hold onto both I'd say. PS1 games can play on PS3, but depending on model, you may or may not be able to play PS2 games (ie: 40 GIG). Besides, between an 360 and a PS3, there aint much of a difference in variety of games. I'd say go for a PS3 if you want more of a media machine (ie: Blu-Ray).

You atleast need to get a 360 or PS3. Either or.
DON'T upgrade. Sounds like you've got a lot of life left in your PS2 & games. I skipped over the NES 20+ yrs ago (by choice, I was an Atari fanboy) & just now am discovering lots of those games. You'll be in the same boat, sortof kicking yourself if you leave all those PS2 games hanging & get into the PS3.
There's NOTHING that appeals to me about this current-gen systems (I know I've said that many times before). We did get a Wii but it was for cheap so we grabbed it.

If you have any question as to if you should upgrade or not, then you're obviously not ready yet. Just keep enjoying what you've got and save your cash.

360's getting ff in the usa markets right? I would just buy a system when you see 1 game that makes you say "gotta get that." If you don't have a hdtv, then make sure you get one before upgrading.

If you have the cash I would say to do it. The PS3 is a *great* system that already has some great titles (including some very cool downloadable content), and it is pretty much a guarantee that you will want it in the not too distant future when more and more "must haves" are released. The system is a baby right now....with a good decade of fun to come. And, it'll play most of the ps2 games you currently own already (or all of them if you can find the good ol' 60GB unit). I can't see any negative in grabbing one....aside from not having the extra cash to do so!

I just sold off my PS3. There are so many great games for the PS2 that I want to get through that it was just colletcting dust. I'll wait at least another year to get a current gen system.

I got a ps3 the day metal gear solid 4 came out and even though it was 400 bucks (got a $100 dollar wal-mart giftcard for it) it would have been worth it just for MGS4. GTA4 didn't quite live up to the hype (it was still like every other gta game since 3) but still fantastic. Uncharted is great and burnout paradise was an unexpected surprise. I've beaten the 4 before it and was getting bored, but paradise is fantastic.
I think it's pretty obvious what I think, but to help sway you a little more, the 80GB backwards compatible version is being discontinued and with it any chance to play ps2 games on your ps3. The new 80GB version is just a 40GB with twice the hard drive space so rule that out. Anyway if you want BC you'll need to pick one up soon or pick one up used.
Good luck!

if you have an hdtv it is totally worth it. make sure you get a ps3 with backwards compatibility. imo the 60gb is the best model because it has hardware based bc.

QFE.
I was going to say something similar. Questioning it means that you are thinking about it, but not sure. If you are not sure, then you should really wait until you know for a fact that you are sure.

Do you intend to use it for anything for other than games? I for example use it for Blu Ray and as an up converting DVD player as well as to watch various video pod casts. For me it is more of a multimedia machine as well as a game platform.
I say go for it, you won't regret it.

What would you recommend and your opinion in this matter?
I'm usually a late bloomer myself, as I like to give the hardware manufacturers a few years to work out the kinks in their launch hardware. I still enjoy my Xbox and PS2 daily because both have a great library of games. But next month I will be upgrading to a 60 gb 360. My choice was based around 3 things: 1) it has more games I want to play out of all the next gen systems, 2) it's very cost effective for it's specs(taking into account this months price drop) and 3) I'll still be able to play with all the people on my friends list from Xbox Live.
I think eventually you should ugrade but don't do it because you read about games getting 10 star rating. Do it because theres atleast 5-15 games on that particular system that "you" want to play. Don't be a victim of the hype machine. For now just enjoy your PS2 and all the good games you have for it.

I would say get it. I got my PS3 not that long ago (2-3 months) and it is amazing. You can download demos of new games and try them out which for has been such a big plus. Also, I got the MGS4 bundle and have been playing casually for the 2-3 months without getting bored or wanting to get a new game. So, while some people are trying to scare you with the size of the library I would take that 1 PS3 game over the 100s of crappy X360 games. Besides look what is coming every month:
Star Wars Force Unleashed
Silent Hill Homecoming
Eternal Sonata
Fallout 3
James Bond Quantum of Solace
Lord of the Rings Conquest
Valkyria Chronicles
Resident Evil 5
...and then one day:
Gran Turismo 5
Final Fantasy XIII & Versus
Twisted Metal PS3
White Knight Chronicles
That right there is enough for me to play until the NEXT next-gen...

I see no reason not to upgrade.
If you do, see if you can find a 60 or 80 Gig unit with PS2 backwards compatibility.

get an original 60gb ps3. they are in fact getting harder to find in nice condition (well actually just pricier).
do this if you are getting or have an hdtv, as the ps2 looks like ass on them (the ps3 helps a LOT).
at this moment there really arent any OMGWTFBBQ must play games (although some would disagree with me). but there are definitely some games worth playing that you will enjoy.

...or get the MGS4 combo if you can find it at a walmart or something. It is an awesome deal with the 80gb backwards compatible system, the best game and rumble controller. I don't know what people are talking about when they say the 80gb is not good for PS2 games because I have not had ANY problems at all with it.

I always wait - and this is a personal preference thing - until I can buy a console for $200 used. The reasoning for this is I just have so many older games to finish that the need to upgrade just isn't high on my list.
By the time I get threw my backlog of PC, Wii, PS2 RPGs, 360, and classic games I've been working on finishing year after year, the PS3 used game sales will be at a point where I can just jump in.
I really want Blu-Ray though. That is such a selling point for me right now that really it's more for the movies then the games that I want a PS3.

I'd say go for a 60 gig because you'll be able to upscale all your PS2 games on an HDTV. I play PS2 and PS3 games on mine and its my standalone PS2s that are collecting dust. PS3 also has a few great downloadable games and if you have a PSP, you can grab demos and full games for that as well.

nah the 80gb model only has like 60% perfect emulation w/ ps2 games. its pretty much all the popular games, but still there a lot that dont work well or at all.

This makes no sense. If it's currently a great system that already has some great titles and will still be desirable in the near future when more "must haves" are released, will it still not be just as desirable and a heckuva lot cheaper five years from now when Mr. Debian has finished with all his PS2 games?

If you can find a 60gig or 20gig system for a good price, I would go for it. You can always install a bigger HDD.
If not, I don't see enough of a library on the PS3 to truely justify it . Now if you are looking for a good blu-ray player, go for it.

Buy a PS3 years later when its way cheaper.
I bought a PS2 last year when their price dropped below $100 in Japan new (I got a white one too, not some ugly black one).
Buy later = get better revision = no hardware problems.
