Moving to modern gaming.

If I had to choose one of those, Infinite Undiscovery. I won't be getting it for awhile though, because Fallout 3 is going to be my rpg this fall. So, I would add Rock Band 2.

Because they don't have room for every single game being released in September on the front page poll. Use your heads instead of insulting GameFAQs for no reason.

and yet they take the time to list Legendary, a game which has about as much chance of being good as Shenmue 3 has of being released.
That said, my most anticipated games of September are Yakuza 2 and STALKER: Clear Sky. The initial reports of Clear Sky's bugginess and the advance word of mouth on Yakuza 2 that I've been hearing for the last ~2 years has me leaning towards wanting Yakuza 2 more for the time being, though I have no doubt that Clear Sky will be the motherfucking bee's knees after a patch or two.

You say that as if GameFAQs is somehow deserving of our respect.
They also left out Spore, which I'm fairly certain is more anticipated than most of these choices. Maybe PC games don't count either.

Taking the options that were given I voted for The Force Unleashed during my daily trip through online hell (aka GameFAQs). Taking the option of looking at an extensive list of upcoming September releases Spore easily takes the cake.
Like Beserker said; PC gamers must not be important enough. Especially when high "quality" titles like Legendary are on the horizon. ;)

Aw, lay off Gamefaqs, they're still struggling to regain what little credibility they had since that glorious moment last year when the Tetris L-block won their character contest battle. :D
But back OT, I went for Force Unleashed, though it was close with IU.

I've been a registered user on GameFAQs for eight years now and I don't remember them ever having much credibility :D I sparsely even post there now.
Still wondering why Spore wasn't included? Have people forgot it's coming out or something?

I voted for Legendary based on what was on the list (or else would be Sonic atDB) because I think its a fairly fresh take on FPS games atleast for us console gamers, I hope it turns out well.

Ds not a real console ? It's the 2nd best of the current systems right behind 360 since Ps2's days are numbered
My reason for posting this was the blatant oversight of not listing a single DS game

The only real problem I have with GameFAQs (aside from the stupid polls) are their boards, because I think that by having a seperate board for every single game, they effectively splinter a larger community, serving more to keep gamers apart rather than bring them together. And since everything is so seperated, the community doesn't really have a chance to grow, keeping everything in this sort of frozen infantile, n00b-state.
As a GameFAQs forum-goer when you finally realize that the only way to have meaningful conversations about video games is to break away from this frozen splintered state and seek out larger, more tightly-knit communities, you're so used to dealing with stupid shit, obscure fan-fiction and "what's your favorite.." that said communities might just write you off as a GameFAQs troll. Whereas without GameFAQs that same person could have possibly latched on to the same community earlier, following the conversations they found interesting perhaps silently at first, and after getting a feel for where the "bar" of standards sits and having grown a bit just from that, could have eventually jumped in and take part more readily-equipped. So, in that respect I see its mere existence as a total disservice to gamers.
Nobody wins, not even GameFAQs, because let's face it, if the annoying cubby-hole community didn't exist and the stupid polls didn't exist, we'd all just be talking about how awesome this massive well of user-driven information was. We all know how useful GameFAQs is as an information resource, but in the same breath we can't help but acknowledge how it's nearly overshadowed by this other, horrible thing.

Please keep in mind that it's from Spark Unlimited, responsible for polluting store shelves with Call of Duty: Finest Hour and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. Both are fairly interesting premises with completely shit execution and I fully expect Legendary live up to their previous achievements.
I really hope that I'm wrong... I love seeing a bad (or incredibly average) dev turn good.

Good place for walkthroughs and such. Otherwise, rather useless. Even most of their reviews are pretty much crap. Full of losers that dump on decent and better games just because they didn't like it. Also, many of them couldn't figure an average/overall score with a magic math genie stapled to their faces.

Are you kidding? That was the best thing to happen on GameFAQs in a while. It might have been a running gag but it at least shook things up enough to get people interested in something that became stale the second everyone noticed it was the same 4 or 5 winners every time.
The problem with GameFAQs is that there really isn't an easy way to fix it. There are just too many users and too many posts. This does two things. First, it makes the mods and site admins far less accessible thus making everything seem arbitrary. Second, the vast number of users make it impossible to even read (let alone post) in a section for a new game. 115+ pages of threads. You click on page 2 and you immediately see a thread that was just on page 1 before you clicked away. How do people put up with that?

Well I don't go to GameFAQs, but having been a channer for a long time I'm sure I'd have no problem navigating their forums. It's something you get more than used to.

Navigating isn't the problem. The interface is actually pretty good. The problem is that the site is just, and I can't believe I'm saying this, too successful. There's just too much traffic for even the most niche of new releases. And forget about the popular ones. A new Zelda game coming out? Don't bother trying to read through the threads because not only are there 1,000 of them but they move so quickly you can literally play a game of refresh the page and watch the threads move.

I use GameFAQs on occasion for, you know... FAQs. I stay the hell away from their message boards and other 'features' though. They're usually insane and sometimes offensive.
Looking forward to Infinite Undiscovery the most by far, I've had it reserved for a month.

Personally I don't think GameFAQs is broken at all. The quality of the forums is negligent, as I (like many users of the site) never look at them. I want help on a game, or sometimes achievement lists.
I think the polls are fun, although count me amongst those who grew tired of the character battle, even with the Tetris piece winning last year. If you watch the polls about console ownership and genre preferences, you can get a good idea of how people are going to vote anyway (pro-Nintendo and pro-RPG) and it becomes quite dull.
As for the poll mentioned in this thread, who knows what their criteria is. I'd guess that, since they're owned by Gamestop or whatever that perhaps it's something that's sold to a 3rd party in cases like that. The makers of those games aren't competing directly with the DS, so why ask about it?
TonyTheTiger
09-02-2008, 12:55 PM
Personally, I think what would make the character battle more interesting is if they started allowing characters who simply appeared in video games instead of originated in them. Now Link and Sephiroth don't look so dominant when put up against Batman and Darth Vader. The way it is now you have 3 or 4 characters who dominate, they get banned from a later tournament only to be replaced by the next tier of 3 or 4 characters who dominate.
