If it's been posted before feel free to lock, but I hadn't seen this, and I'm sure it's a limited time deal from EA.com
EA is celebrating the 13th year anniversary of C&C (Sure, sure... NOT the release of Red Alert 3, right?) with this nice little freebie.

Remember to get both discs!

I've bought and rebought this game probably a good 4 or 5 times, but I went ahead and downloaded it anyway. Damn classic, that's for sure.
I also fondly recall that this game was the reason that our ISP imposed strict email size limits after my friends started emailing it around to each other. Hey, otherwise unrestricted broadband access in 1996 was just BEGGING to be abused, baby.

Oh man. I remember the first time ever figuring out how to use a LAN was because of this game. Me and my brother (mostly my brother) had a small group of friends who would play C&C:RA religiously whenever we got together. Great, great game. Compared to the other "drier" RTS' of the time. I probably would've never even got an interest in the genre had it not been for C&C:RA.
Thanks for the link, Joe! "Shake and bake, baby!"

I'm going to take a wild guess and say yes. When Rockstar released GTA I + II and Wild Metal Country for free (and are also still available), they didn't change the games at all but just made them playable on more modern systems. If you take a look at the fine print, it says that C&C:RA doesn't work in Vista, which means that EA didn't even go that far.
It probably wouldn't be that beneficial for them to add or redesign anything new in the game in the first place, when they are planning to give it away for free anyways.

Since this kind of thing usually elicits a "where can I find that" response, I thought I would pre-empt with this (now rather old but seemingly still working) link:

Already DLed them last year, as a part of their 12th anniversary/some other title promo. Guess it's turning into an annual thing.

I thought that that was Command & Conquer Gold to help promote Command & Conquer 3?

Yeah, probably. Never even bothered playing it, just saw OMGFREE!!! downloaded it, then deleted it a week later. Did the same thing with the Rockstar stuff.

I do not know if this has been posted yet, but the game is not exactly new, so I guess I am putting the link here.

when did C&C become so popular that it warrented such star power. I mean, it's a great series, but it's surprising that McCarthy, J k Simmons, Sulu, Curry, that german dude from the big lebowski and the guy from Brazil all put aside time to do the game's cinematics

I think I have to agree, but it is sulu. I am a sucker for sulu, I will end up buying pretty much anything that has sulu acting in it.

it happened about 13 years ago, but they're just now getting around to it
seriously, what makes you think a game with that many sequels isn't worthy?
Wing Commander got Mark Hamill for part 3 and every sequel after, didn't it?
I think the better question is why did it take C&C so long to get Mr. Sulu?

I didn't say it wasn't worthy, just surprised that C&C was that popular.

has anyone gotten this to work? I followed the directions for XP installation and I still get error messages...

I burned the disc images to CD-R's and installed it on my DOS machine. The installation and the included patch went off fine without a hitch. YMMV.
Of course, I realize that this has nothing to do with trying to install it on a Windows machine, but I just wanted to confirm that the disc images do work.
