Neo Geo Pocket Color to a Dreamcast ever come out in America? I know it came out in Japan and had a few games that supported it, but despite it being advertised in America, I haven't encountered an American version of this link cable.

Thanks.

I remember seeing one at my local Software Etc. back then in with all the NGPC stuff.

I had Capcom Vs. SNK and debated getting one at the time but never did.

Sorry for the distance from the accessories, as I don't think I knew what I was thinking when I took the pic last year. If you're desperate for a better pic I can get one done tomorrow.

Yeah, I would like a better pic if possible.

That cable is one of the few things I still need for my NGPC set...

Is there a list of US DC games that support the NGPC linkup?

Check the NGPC rarity list, I believe I've got all the linked games listed there.

Thanks, I was just about to ask that.

I'm betting it's only like 2 or 3 games...

It doesn't say anything in the rarity list, but I know one game for sure (SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millennium) uses the connectivity, but I'm not sure if you have to have both the Match of the Millennium and Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 to have the connection.

Hmm check the NPGC entry for MotM, it mentions connecting to "Capcom vs SNK" (though I was just going by the manual, long story, but I did a lot of the section very quickly in the past!) but not the full title. I'll add that in. What isn't there for some reason is that MotM can also link to KoF Dream Match 99 as well on the DC. Gonna recheck that, make sure that's true (cos KoF R2 can supposedly also link to it). Most of the links were with Japanese games only though.

Yeah, I figured that. Wikipedia says KoF Dream Match is coming out in America in 2009 on the PS2, though. Any confirmed US releases that use it?

Also, the first thing I thought when I saw the link cable was, "Sweet, now I can hook my favorite failed systems TOGETHER." :)

Thanks for the info guys..I'll look into it some more too.

Haha, yes--these systems sure did have similarly cruel fates..

I rechecked my games and online to make sure. MotM can connect with both the DC version of the same game and KoF Dream Match 99. And KoF R2 on the NGPC does connect with KoF Dream Match 99 as well. Time to update the spreadsheet :)

**totally off the DC/NGPC link tangent but since Mayhem is here**

Mayhem, do you know of any knowledgeable US released NGPC collection people? I keep finding variants and well the N-G forums don't seem to care about them, and i'm not sure i'm really in the mood to post questions over there to not get any answers. I just found an accessory variant, to go along with system box variants when I was taking the above pics....

**back on tangent**

The US Connector's box is rare as hell. Cable, not so much, box, ZOMG.

Seriously, that rare?

Looks like I might have to track it down.

Sadly not, it's either all Japanese or Europe...

You wern't suppose to say that. I wanted to hear all kinds of names besides mine that were US NGPC whores.

That means its Vectorman and myself.... What about D-Lite?

What accessory variant? Is it a link cable with a hang tab and one without?
If so, I think one is European/Asian, and one is North American. I have both.

Edit - Sweaterfishdeluxe is very knowledgeable on the subject, I can't really think of any others who are hardcore into NGPC collecting (US related). When you start talking about stuff so minor most wouldn't notice, people don't care about it as much. You're basically on your own if you want to hunt down system box variants and stuff. (until you get Dangerboy collecting NGPC stuff) I'm always game for US Snapcases though.

Edit 2 - D-Lite is too busy with life, or something, to care about video games.

I had a complete NGPC collection at one time. I had to sell it in tough times though. I had some great times with it though. I used the Dreamlink once on my college roommates Dreamcast just to try it out. It wasn't to amazing.

Yeah theres a hang tab on one. It only stood out because the UPC was the same (not to mention that the part number was too). I guess thats a relief if there is one. So which one is which?

And all people should care about box variants!

Damn! I don't know why there arn't any US hardcore collectors out there, save for Vec, Sweaterfish and myself. It's a travesty I tell you!

Actually, my hantag and non hangtab have different part numbers: NEOP-10021 and NEOP-TCU. I can check which NEOP# goes to which one, later.

I'm actually thinking that one is NGP and one is NGPC, instead of them being different across regions.

I noticed that too, but look at where the SKU is, the one that has the NEOP-TCU has the 10021 part number under the sku on it.

My NGP link cable has the hangtag and part number TCU. I believe it's the European release, it certainly isn't the Japanese one as everything is in English. There is NO mention of the 10021 part number anywhere on the box. It also says (c) 1998 so I think this one might have been out for the original b/w version of the handheld. Maybe the 10021 is the one released to go with the colour version (although either cable works fine on either machine).

It was available here (at least through SNK-USA's website, if not actually in stores), but I don't think there's any difference at all from the Japanese version. Even the packaging. They just sold them over here.

Yeah, without even seeing either of them, that'd be my guess as well. TCU sounds like a part number from the "overseas" (i.e. everywhere but Japan) B&W system. 10021 would be a US part number for the NGPC. The corresponding Japanese part number would be 10020. For games as well as hardware, the last digit indicates whether it's Japanese or American. For games, the Euro/Asian NGPC part numbers lacked the fifth digit altogether and that's probably also true for hardware, but I'm not positive.

There are two different box variations for the DC Link cable. One has Japanese text, one has English text.

PapaStu

Upon a little more looking at this box, it has the NEOP-TCU all over the box save for one place. The Sku appears to be a sticker that says Link Cable NEOP 10021 and the US Sku is under that. On my hangtab less one it has copywrites for SNK of America, the -TCU hangtab one does not. It looks that I've got a rebranded Link Cable.

Pics will be added shortly. The flash keeps washing out the sku.
