The smallest Sega Genesis 3 is well known for the incompatibility with the Sega 32x system, the Game Genie, some games such as Virtua Racing and the Sega Master Converter....Also, it seems to be the most hated....
I have found the missing connections needed to give the Genesis 3 these features back....
It now plays great Genesis games, Sega 32X games, other plug-in devices and 90% of the US Sega Master System collection with the converter...

cool I had one of these when they first came out, freakishly small! Missing alot of things, very cool you fixed it. You should help people out and mod systems for those who want it

Good work.....you should consider making custom "neptune systems." I fugure you could stick a 32x and Genesis 3 in a Genesis 2 shell......right?

Edit: you already do those.....well maybe this will be easier.

awesome news. i'd like to hear more info, as i have a genesis 3 lying around somewhere which i've viewed as otherwise useless because of it's limitations listed in your post..but kept for novelty sake. i still prefer the version 2 but honestly wish i preferred the original - like i do just about every other system.

I think I see why they decided not to have 32X compatibility on the Genesis 3, it looks so weird it's comical. LOL

Anyway, very cool. What exactly were the connections you had to make?

now just find a way to tack it onto a sega cd and youve done it!

I thought the Z80 was missing entirely. But geez, it's just a matter of a few extra connections? Shame on Majesco.

I'd like to give that hack a try... can you post instructions?

Thanks,

I thought the Z80 was missing entirely.

They couldn't omit the Z80 since it acts as the sound processor for the Genesis.

I thought it was replaced by a different chip, thus the incompatibility.

Please post instructions on how this mod is performed and video of the game in action.

I will gladly do a tutorial, but I need another Sega Genesis 3 like it, to do so.....To take close-up pics of the solder points and missing links needed step by step......Once I was done with my system, I decided to put epoxy, therefore, right now you won't be able to tell where they are....
So anyone interested and willing to sell me a cheap Genesis 3 core, please do so.....

Here's the requested video, but keep in mind that it isn't the best camera(QVGA)out there, and that I'm not the greatest player using only one hand.....

Nice ... I had some lectures about the compatibility issue in the Majesco Game Gear and how to convert the unit to be compatible with the Master Gear converter. I found this text sometime ago on the NET, but I did not copy the information. Do you have any tip or information to add about the Majesco units?

By the way, did you get the stereo sound ? Some persons listed the Genesis 3 as having boards with or without stereo output. It seems like the case of the old SEGA Mega Drive 3 machines that TecToy sold in the past, some of them were reported to be compatible with the Power Base converter and even the SEGA CD unit. The Super Mega Drive 3 has the games build in inner memory. If you like to hack Mega Drive compatible systems it is a interesting choice.

Is there any list of the games that are affected by the technical mods?

Well I hope your not around for very long...

To make the bump not be so useless, I hope someone does a tutorial someday. Probably something I won't ever try to attempt since I actually seem to be one of the few fans the Genesis 3 has and don't want to break it, but I'd be interested in seeing the process anyways.

Hey, you don't have to break it....

Totally forgot about this old thread..At least this Gen 3/ 32X combo saves me some space around here at home..

I always felt as if the older Genesis model 1 and 2 were being gang banged by all the other attachments anyway...

Yes, it can be done for sure...I didn't used magic, althought I wish I did..But instead, good soldering skills, attaching wires to the Genesis 3 Asic millimetric pin legs is not for everyone....
