Kotaku notes that the suspected price cuts to the various Xbox 360 systems have been confirmed. Xbox Live's Major Nelson posted the new prices ($199 for the Arcade, $299 for the Pro, and $399 for the Elite) and pointed out a BusinessWeek story discussing the changes. The price cuts will take effect on September 5th.http://games.slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rss&op=image&style=h0&sid=08/09/03/2246231 (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/09/03/2246231&from=rss)

sweet. I'm very tempted right now to upgrade from my premium model to an elite (i need the bigger HD and the HDMI) plus my system is a few years old now and will soon be out of warranty and it has some disc read issues which MS says will be 100 bucks to fix.

We had some drama at work the other day; when the news of Best Buy putting the price drop in an upcoming flyer, the picture was an extranet site the company I work for (ShopLocal) hosts. Uh oh. Luckily, it turned out to be someone at Best Buy who did it, so no one got fired SL way...

How come Microsoft's price cuts always seem to be leaked early? I don't remember the last Sony price cuts being leaked through Sunday circular ads but it seems like the last couple of Xbox ones have been leaked quite a ways in advance either in ads or press leaks.
Maybe you can shed some light on this slapdash? Is there some major difference with the way Microsoft handles these things or is it just coincidence?

Reduce the Pro set to $250 and I may consider it...

Just got an email from TRU hyping this.....
As I won't be playing anything online should I get the Arcade or is it better to get the Pro system? The only thing I HAVE to have right now is Ace Combat.

I wonder what 20GB will be marked at if 60GB are $299?

I don't have a good answer for that, as I'm not in on it where it counts, but I'd guess that either PS fans are less likely to spread news like that, or they don't reveal price cuts as early. In the case of ShopLocal, our ad got leaked simply because the ad was being prepared that far in advance, and I assume Microsoft leaked it even earlier to the retailers so that they COULD advertise it. But perhaps Sony doesn't work with the retailers as closely, or reveal even to THEM the price cuts as quickly? I'm not sure.

They should still be $299 when you find them. However, Compusa is selling them for $199.....refurbished.
