View Full Version : Adapting a regular CR2032 to a Sega CD

Hi. My Sega CD battery seems to be on it's way out. It barely holds for a week before needing another 6 hour charge (as the Sega CD manual states). Sadly it's an ML2032 (rechargeable CR2032) which are pretty uncommon to find for sale.

I've thinking about putting a regular CR2032 instead. What worries me is the Sega CD charging the non-chargeable CR2032 battery and damaging it/making it explode.

I'm no electrical engineer but I think that a diode could be used to block said charging. Now, the thing is that I don't really know how to do it. From the info I've collected on the web and from my college notes I've come up with this:

--- (-)CR2032(+) --- (+)3V DIODE(-) ----

I'd like to know if this is OK. Thank you for any response.

The diode hack will probably work; it's what people use on other systems with 3V rechargeable batteries. You could hook up a 3V cordless phone battery if you're too lazy to deal with the diode (the only catch would be finding one small enough).
