View Full Version : Any chance you think of a PS2 HDMI version?

We all know that the NEW PS3 will not support PS2 playback. Is there any chance that Sony would release a future revision of the PS2 that would support HDMI out? Considering that the PS3 20/60/80 GB versions showcase the advantages of playing PS2 on a higher resolution, is there any way we might see this with possibly a "final revision" of the PS2? I guess I can hope and pray...

I really doubt it. They're phasing out PS2 BC in the PS3 because they want people to buy PS3 games, not PS2.

no they won't. first of all, it would be useless. the ps2 is incapable of outputting 1080p (nor does it need to), and even so, hdmi would carry the same information with the same quality as the current component cables.

secondly, if you mean that the ps2 would have 'upconverting' capabilities as the ps3 does, that isnt gonna happen either as it would cost a lot to porduce and insert a GPU for this purpose (good upconverting dvd players instantly run you $200+)

Hey, what's going on in this, "I wish I was lucky enough to find a Toshiba HD-XA2 on clearance" thread? :'(

I thought they were phasing out PS2 support so people would buy more PS2 systems. :p

dont worry buddy i got my toshiba A30 with 7 hddvds for 70$ ;)

that doesnt change the fact that the chip inside of it, along with other upconverting dvd players (OPPO anyone?) still pushes the players in the 200$ range.

Won't happen. There will be no redesigns to the PS2 until it's phased out. It wouldn't be cost effective to do so. Also, HDMI wouldn't give any benefit on a PS2 unless you are running component cables longer than 12 feet. Then an HDMI cable could benefit you. Otherwise the component will look as good as the HDMI.

I'd settle for a ps2 redesign that could just consistently play ps2 games ;).

The PS2 only has 16 mb of ram... you can't even use a framebuffer at 1080i with that.
