View Full Version : Forum TEAM project: Need game to dissect (not Bubble Bobble)

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time, and it might be a lot more fun if we pool our resources.

I'd like to completely disect one particular game and create a "shrine" or homage page for it. This single page would include pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about the game: all of the stuff we capture in the DP Guide plus scans, links to relevant resources, online manuals, cheats, you name it.

So there are two parts to this.

1) We need to choose a game.
2) We'll then need to decide who's doing what.
We had chosen Bubble Bobble but as BenT discovered, there's already a very in-depth whole website on that. We need a different game that ISN'T done in detail anywhere.

I'll play the point person, but everyone who contributes will be credited on that page.

Who's in? Let's hear some suggestions for a title that we can really dig into.

I'm down to help out if I can.

A couple suggestions for the game we dissect.

Super Metroid
Mario 3
Kid Icarus

It may be a little tripe, but Bubble bobble has some interesting differences between the Arcade, NES, and Master System versions.
The most interesting being the Master System version with it's extra bosses and secrets.

"A little tripe"? Hey, I happen to think Bubble Bobble is a classic.

It might be best if we choose a game that doesn't yet have a decent webpage dedicated to it. The Metroid Database (http://www.classicgaming.com/mdb/) already has every Metroid title covered, and Super Mario Bros. 3 is so well known that it'd almost be redundant to examine it in detail. Kid Icarus and Bubble Bobble are good suggestions, though, and I'd like to see us tackle something Crystalis or Wonder Boy III.

I volunteer to stand by and criticize everyone else's ideas.

I like the Bubble Bobble concept, plus those characters "went on to do other things" which could also be somewhat explored.

Shall we start with this? It's a good candidate because it's well-known, has arcade roots, has appeared on many platforms, and has several sequels and thos spin-offs.

I'll help whenever I have some time...but I wouldn't count on me to be a constant contributor. I'm still really busy with my senior project.

Sounds like a good idea to me as well. There's a pretty decent Bubble Bobble page here:

http://taito.overclocked.org/

but it is missing a lot, IMHO. No real reviews from what I can see. There's plenty left to build on.

I'm game for a project.

Count me in for writing articles. I also have some minor experience with designing web graphics, and I'm mediocre at HTML editing. I'd love to get in on this in some capacity, and I like the whole "team feeling" of it.

I don't know how big of a help I can be with the project but it sounds like fun. I suggest super Mario Bros. 3.

BUBBLE BOBBLE it is.

Here's what we'll do. Everyone who wants to contribute, just state so if you have not already, by noon on Sunday. After that I'll compile the things I'd like to see on that page. Volunteer for whatever you'd like, or suggest other things that I've surely forgotten.

"Noon" = 12pm EDT, Sunday. Sorry 'bout the weekday-only folks, you'll get your chance later!

Not sure what help I can contribute, but I'm sure I can figure somethin out.

This is pretty in-depth.....should we pick a different game?

Me!
Could we also include Bust-A-Move as it is related?

I'd be interested in providing a little help.

Did you know there are several references to Chack'n Pop, bubble bobble's little known predecessor throught the game?

And for some info on the SMS version (which no one ever pays attention to for some reason, even though it's the best one) Check these out:

Whatever the project becomes I'd like to volunteer to help.

Will any media files be at this site? If so I can dig up some for whatever we're working on.

Do one for Master Chu & The Drunkard Hu.

No seriously, a few years back my friend did the only fan site for that game. Too bad it went down after several months and he never bothered to put it back up...

Since I know absolutely nothing about BUBBLE BOBBLE I think I will sit this one out. But it's a great idea! Hope it goes well.

Count me in, I'll come up with something I'm capable of ;)

I'll be the first to take on Kid's idea...

You can start by spelling 'Bubble' correctly in the title of the thread LOL

Is this on the whole series, or just the first game?

Ninja Gaiden, was gonna be my random choice...

The rare SMS and PCE versions sure do add some odd flavor to that idea.

But I digress. I used to play the shit out of Bubble Bobble on NES...sure where a lot of secrets in that game....seems there where more that 2 endings...could never quite figure out why ( I think it was different on the 2nd and 3rd times through). Yes I did do it with 2 players, so that wasn't the prob.....

Ughh.....now I wanna know.

Snow Bros...it´s an interesting arcade game like Bubble Bobble

I'll second Fantasy Zone - the game has several versions and the Opa Opa character deserves further exploration.

If everyone's OK to go with this one, we'll go with Fantasy Zone and start the "assignments" tomorrow.

So, we're doing Fantasy Zone now instead of Bubble Bobble? OK, count me out then.

Interesting note:
The NES and Famicom versions of Fantasy Zone are DIFFERENT!!!!!!!
