Now I know we're not supposed to talk about teh romz and whatnot, so I'm not gonna post a link or anything, but just to let people like myself who have been waiting years to play the game in english know, IT FINALLY HAPPENED!

Rent-A-Hero No. 1 cancelled english xbox port now is out and about and seems to be complete. I've played almost the entire game through once now and have yet to encounter any fatal bugs. There's a few small text issues here and there but that's about it.

If anyone else happens to be playing this, let's discuss! I noticed there are a handful of localization changes (no surprise there). They changed Segata's name (damnit), gave several of the stores/parts of town different names and signage, and the intro movie is instrumental Rent-A-Hero theme now, I think the original game has the vocal there, but it has been awhile since I've played it. The default name for your guy is "JOHN DOE" and the default hero name is "RentMe".

Having this available to play after all this time is a dream come true and whoever made this possible is a true hero.

I've got it coming down now.

I made a copy of The Red Star on Xbox with a custom insert & disc sticker for one of my mates as he's a fan of the comics, so this'll be going his way too. Just need to knock up some sort of decent cover and image for the disc.

Thanks very much to the lovely person who made this available.

YES! I was so bummed out when I heard this game was canceled. I was waiting for it to come out for ages and then it just disappeared all of a sudden.

Downloading now. Can't wait to finally play this!

Time to mod the big ol' black box, and do some torrent hunting!

My Xbox literally hasn't been turned on since I bought my 360, back in Feb. 06. Now, I have a reason to. I hope it still works....

Thanks for the gallery!

Very nice addition... does anyone know if this works on a modded 360?

I'd venture a no, because it would need to have an emulator done for the game for it to work, but don't hold me to that.

at the *moment*, it will not work on a 360...

I thought so, well guess I have to play it on the xbox... (not like it's a bad thing, just a matter of convenience).

I played Rent-A-Hero for a couple hours and really didn't like it. The dialogue was funny but the missions were tedious and combat was a mess. The outdoor graphics were awful too.

If this was a finished beta, I can understand why it never got released. Everything seemed very rushed.

BTW, is it possible to control your character with the analog stick? I could only move him around with the d-pad, which was another thing I hated about this game.

Sadly, D-pad only. This is also a problem in the original. Actually everything you mention are simply present from the retail Japanese version of the game. I am pretty sure this was never a game with much of a budget. The engine is from Spikeout even.

But yea the no analog control is a pain in the nuts.
