What happened to Samurai Shodown II? I thought it was supposed to be 400 points. I went to download it and it turns out it's 800 points.

What happened?

*Ahem.*

ONLINE PLAY.

That's worth an extra 400 carny points!

EDIT: I just got done playing online. It works OK. Totally worth it.

I think there was some confusion.. I believe the SNKP press release stated it would be 400 points. I'm betting Microsoft mandated that it be an 800 game point.

Fatal Fury Special was only 400 points and had online play that was equally as good.

I still say Samurai Shodown 2 is worth it though. My only real issue is I do play the game with the standard 360 controller and of course SS2 just has to be a 6 button game.. As if the D-pad weren't enough of a hindrance the way it is. Ugh.

Since when is SS2 a 6 button game? Neo only has 4 buttons...

Yeah but its a hit light + medium for fierce situation. That's easy on a neogeo controller. It would suck on a 360 layout :(

Yeah, I was surprised as well that it was 800 points.

Excellent title though for a fraction of the cost of the original, Plus, online play.

Or you could just wait a few months and buy Samurai Shodown Anthology (http://ps2.ign.com/objects/857/857118.html)for $5.00 more.

Course, there's no online play with that.

Correct, but based on every single XBLA fighting game released so far...no one will be playing this online either in a few weeks.

Dunno, UMK3 still has a decent number of players, and I hear Hyper Fighting does too. But as a general rule, I think you have to arrange matches on fighting game forums like shoryuken to get any decent competition numbers.

SS Anthology will be the one I will wait for these reasons

1. Hard Copy(on a disc)

2. Every other SS 2D as well

3. SS VI

4. like others have said, down the road nobody will be playing online

5. I have some great 2D arcade sticks for my PS2, none for my xbox 360.

It is good to see this one on XBLA, and I am sure it is good.

Has SSVI been confirmed yet? Because the Japanese version did not include it, and the only difference between the US and JP versions are the removal of online play, blood, and jiggly parts...

Love the game but it looks awful in HD and controls horribly with the stock controller.

Yes, Sam Sho 6 is on the anthology for the US, according to ign's preview.

More interesting is that although the preview mentions Samurai Shodown V Special as being in the game, the actual website on SNK's page says there's only 6 titles on there. I don't know if it is counting those two as one, or if they have since removed it for some reason, or what...their email seems to be nonfunctional.

Will the anthology be released on any systems other than ps2? I'd love a 360 disc release, or even wii.

I'd have to play around with the game a little bit to see if the controls will annoy me too much. I really, really, really need to track down a 360 fighting stick.

Anyway, if you still have doubts/questions about Samurai Showdown Anthology, Ignition finally gave it a press release today:

"Ignition Entertainment and SNK Playmore are pleased to announce the upcoming European release of Samurai Showdown Anthology for PlayStation®2, PlayStation®Portable and Wii™.

Containing all 6 titles from this hugely popular franchise, Samurai Shodown Anthology details why this is among SNK’s largest and popular franchises.

First appearing on the NEOGEO MVS system in July 93 the game soon gained a massive following who immediately took to the games unique fast paced, and sometimes brutal gameplay.

The games setting, use of sword based weapons and varied and memorable characters was a departure from other fighters released at that time. It was this ‘out of the box’ thinking that allowed this franchise to flourish amongst the competition of the day.

‘Samurai Shodown set new standards in the fighting genre, and this has attributed to its ongoing success’, says Peter Rollinson, Product Manager, Ignition Entertainment Ltd. ‘this collection gives players the chance to see where the series came from. Where it goes in the future will be equally exciting’

GAME FEATURES:

- Contains all 6 Samurai Showdown games
- Choose from over 48 playable characters across the titles
- Experience intense sword based fighting
- Personalise your favourite character with the ‘Colour Edit Mode’

For further information please visit: www.ignitionent.com/ssa

Samurai Shodown Anthology will be available Winter ’08 for the for PlayStation®2, PlayStation®Portable and Wii™."

...

This isn't complete. It's still missing the NeoGeo 64, NeoGeo CD and PSX exclusive games. ;_;

Volume 2? Hah, as if. :(

And they STILL haven't mentioned if we're getting V Special or not. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't include it just to spite us.

No V Special would equal no sale for me. Furthermore, are we going to see frame cuts in this one? I really want to look forward to this one (would it kill them to release the Last Blade as well?), but SNKP has taken a fabulous book of existing IP and failed with it again and again. I'll be keeping my CMVS until they decide they want to get it right.

Dude, have you played their earlier Anthologies? They're basically emulating the original NeoGeo games with a streamed soundtrack. If this volume was made by the people who made the Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and World Heroes Anthologies, then it's going to be a quality product.

Of course, if they get the retards that made Metal Slug Anthology and Arcade Classics... then it's going to fucking suck.

Yeah, I purchased SamSho 2.......and I can't seem to find anyone on the live matches. Oh well. It looks great (arcade perfect from what I can tell), but I'm seriously gonna take my 360 controller apart and mod the fucker for better d-pad response. Ugh.

I was gonna buy it until I saw the 800 point price.

If a brick and mortar store pulled something like that, they'd get sued.

The game is easily worth $5. A little more hesitant to pay the $9 (or whatever the 800 points equals to) because SS2 is plentiful in Neo-geos in my neck of the woods.

A bar down the street has the first 3 games, on their 3 slot cab.
