I have a chance to buy a PS3 20 gig version for 150(Canadian) but he says that it overheats about every half hour so it resets, is this a common problem and does anyone know how much it would cost to get Sony to fix it?
Thanks

this is not a common problem, in fact this is the first i hear of this.
i say dont buy it. watch ebay i bet you can get it for about 250 or so and no need to repair as sony will probably charge an arm and a leg for it (plus shipping...)

According to what I have read the Sony repair will run you about $150. That may vary depending on the type of repair they need to do as well.

PS3 20gb and 60gb's are the rarest of the bunch because of the PS2 internals so definitely go for either one of those.
answering your question - no.
PS3 shouldn't overheat.
but for that price you might as well get it and try to fix it maybe?(if you're tech savvy).

This was my thought as well, the ones that I have seen on e-bay regularly go for 400 plus so even if I had to send it to Sony for 150 it would still be under e-bay prices.

It might be the environment it's kept in. My ps3 is in a stereo cabinet (which also houses my 360) and it's gotten severely loud on several occasions, even though I'd consider there to be ample ventilation, even with the doors closed; not the case, after leaving the doors open for about five minutes the fan was finally back down to a reasonable level.

Are you trying to kill your systems?
My bother bought a ps3 at launch and it had overheating problems. He had to wait after x-mas to get a replacement. His replacement never had a overheating problem though.
