I just made this and thought I'd show it off. It's a NES game rack made out of Construx. The 2 different levels rotate for easy viewing (and coolness factor). I might add a platform on top for figures or to show off a rare game in a cool way.

If anyone has ever built anything like this, post pics! I'd love to see it.

Never built anything too functional for my games, but I did use LEGOs to build a display support system, so to speak, for all my Game Boys one time. I wanted them to stand up a little bit on the shelf instead of just laying flat on their respective backs so I found that the LEGO technics bars with holes throughout and bent at various angles fit perfectly in the cartridge slots, so I used different sizes all mounted to one main frame to hold up all the Game Boys at good displaying angles.

We've got so many LEGOs in this house (my brother is a Bionicle fanatic, but we've got everything from the duplo bricks on up.) I'm tempted to do something like this again, only a little bit better.

That display system sounds awesome. I was actually going to use LEGOs but then I remembered loving my construx set as a kid so I decided to use those instead. I have a ton of construx and no shelving for my games so I plan to build more interesting displays with them.

I adored Contrux when I was a kid. I loved them so much that I actually designed functional back backs (Grappling hook = black hook tied to twine, tucked inside a itty-biity beam, etc).

I even redesigned the one "space ship" on the back of one of the boxes so that the wingspan was so huge it couldn't fit through a door without tilting. They drooped like a bitch, but it looked cool. :)

Nintendo related to boot, I had built a "TV" out of mine and in the "screen" were the various construx characters recreating a scene from Contra, with some construction paper creatively cut up to represent the bad guys and stage decor.

All of this in hopes of getting my own TV and NES in my room as a kid. My mom didn't really fall for it. :)

Was fun times.

God bless ya, that was worth the trip down memory lane.

Bless you for showing this and reminding me of how awesome Construx were.

Legos and Construx were two of the best toys I had. Making your own toys & making stuff for G.I. Joe/Transformers/Hot Wheels was a blast.

That's pretty cool! I once made a stand for my 2600 out of tinker toy's. Anyone remember those bad ass sticks?

heh.heh. I'm so old.

Haha! My brother and I did something similar. We built these giant claws that fit around our arms and we'd fight with them. We also built shields and swords out of them and pretended to be Link fighting Gannon.

We also made up a game called Crash'em Up Bash'em Up where we'd build cars out of construx and ram them together with the goal of destroying the other person's car. At first we tried to build the sturdiest and hardest-hitting vehicles that we could to obliterate the other guy's car but eventually we found out that by building a flat car, the larger cars would be catapulted into the air and come smashing down to the ground. It was really cool trying to outsmart the other person by customizing your vehicle to defeat their best designs.

YOU BUILD!!! The game rack!

YOU BUILD!!! NES game storage!

I had way too many Construx as a child. Somewhere there are pics of me playing out scenes from Star Trek II in Construx as a child.

Yeah, geek from day one :D

Nobody's mentioned K'Nex yet! Those things aren't as strong, but more possibilities for angles and such. You could probably build some neat looking angled stands for individual games, kinda like picture frames.

At one point I had a CD rack built out of LEGOs at my old place. It mostly held software but also some games. It was pretty cool but I had to tear it down to move and I've been too lazy to even think about rebuilding it.

Man, talk about dating yourself. I use to have tons of them. I remember building a ferris wheel every saturday. It got old and I moved onto the paint'd wooden blocks. We use to build the blocks to the ceiling and then play Jenga with it. We had to ban the cat from the room because he always wanted to rub against the wooden tower. Ah, the good ole days...

I remember having tinker toys. They still make those, don't they?

Another thing I'm drawing a blank on, but does anyone remember those things (which were similar in function to Contrux/Tinkertoys/etc) but were like plastic accordion like tubes that you could expand and compress?

Ha! I do remember those! I used to have a bunch of them.... unfortunately, I can't remember the name of them.

hmmm.... interesting. It doesn't look like it would close. I assume the DS slides further in and it's only pulled up that high for the picture?

yeah it closes, i only had the ds slid up for the pics. It laches tight just like any good ammo box should. keeps everything safe inside.

Construx...I had much fun with those and Legos as a kid. Sometimes I still hear songs on the radio that bring back specific memories of playing with Construx in my room.
