Ok, I have a dual boot setup. System specs are:

Core2Extreme QX9650
DFI Blood-Iron P35
PC Power & Cooling Silencer S75QB 750W PSU
4gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 (Micron D9)
Visiontek ATI Radeon 4850
BFG Physx card
74gb WD Raptor (XP) / 160gb WD Enterprise (Vista Ultimate x64)
(2) 320gb SATA WD hard drives in RAID-0 (media storage)

Now, in XP I run Crysis at 1680x1050, 8x AA, and everything on high; and the game plays perfect. I rarely notice any lag.

In Vista 64, I tried running Crysis at the same specs except at very high and got a slideshow. Dropped it down to 4x AA and just high settings & it made it playable, but still a little slow.

What gives? Is it DX10 putting more stress on my system? I figured the 64 bit would help the game as it can actually take advantage of my CPU more… no?

I'm not familiar with that particular computer game, but a 3 GHz Core 2 Quad CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and a 512 MB video card should be able to handle any game just fine.

Is there some sort of Crysis patch available for Vista x64? Is Vista x64 listed on the box or in the instruction manual as being a compatible OS?

Then that's weird, don't you think? You have a very powerful computer. Have you searched other forums for this problem? Is anyone else on the internet experiencing similar performance issues?

I *did* hear that NASA had the only computer that was able to take full advantage of the game's engine!

Sounds like that's the problem. 64 bit Vista driver support has always and will always suck until Microsoft no longer has to provide and hardware manufacturers no longer have to support a 32 bit OS. Won't happen with Windows 7, but maybe by the time Windows 8 rolls out, 32bit processors will have become a thing of the past.

Play around with different 64bit driver revisions for your card and do some huntin' 'round the net. I'm sure someone out there has the magical fix for it. Just be glad that you're not using a Creative Labs sound card in that environment. Those dudes just don't give a fuck about supporting it.

...or install Vista 32 and watch it magically work just fine. Hope you're not too attached to that top 512mb-1gb of ram you have there.

It is known that all games take a hit in VISTA, DX10 adds more graphical ounch for games made for it but at a cost. Anyway, make sure also that in your display settings you don't have dual monitor enabled, I hear that helps a lot..............

I'm running crysis on a similar setup with 64 bit Vista and I've been experiencing lag aswell. I updated my motherboard bios for improved sli compatibility and it made it better. Still, I can't push the graphics settings to far or I'll start lagging again.
