I recently found a bargain copy of Kirby's Fun Pak (Super Star for the ntsc crowd). Got it, cleaned it, and started it up. But the lower part of the screen shows a lot of graphic artifacts; small lines when kirby shoots and almost NES like distortions when enemies enter from the screen below.
I have never seen anything like this on the SNES, if the games are dirty - they just don't start up properly. My question is if this is something that has to do with the SA-1 chip, if it's a common problem with Kirby super star / Kirby's fun pak or if it's my copy that's faulty?

I never saw anything like that on my copy; perhaps your SNES needs some cleaning as well.

Could there be corosion on the chips inside? Try opening the game with a gamebit and use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts as well as anything that looks corroded inside.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but this is happening with my japanese version of hoshi no kirby super deluxe played on my 60hz PAL SNES with the lockout chip disabled.
It really isn't that bad, so much so that some people may not even notice, so I was wondering if they all do this (I tried emulating the game in bsnes but it doesn't do it). But I too was wondering if this is because of the SA-1 chip, or because of the lockout chip etc. I was going to try cutting pin 127 on the SA-1 on the cart (I was expecting to have to do that anyway to get the game to boot, but it just worked)

OK, so I fixed it. It seems that rapidly switching from 50hz to 60hz repeatedly until the artifacts go, fixes the issue for me with japanese game on PAL snes.
