Am I the only one who thinks it's kind of sad when I keep reading posts here like the following?
"I just saw "so and so game" at my local thrift store. How rare is it and how much is it worth? they wanted $xyz for it. Should I go back and pick it up?"
This just reminds me how the allmighty buck is still the most important thing to so many people. More so than nostalgia or pure enjoyment of playing a great game.
Don't buy it because of what it potentially may be worth so somwone half way across the planet. Buy it because its a fun game or because you'd like it for your collection.

It doesn't bother me, personally. It's probably the bastard child result of having a website so closely tied to a collector's guide. I can see where the casual gamer/visitor might get a little tired of it, but for those of us on the book project, it keeps us on our toes :)
You might be misinterpreting the question as "Is this a worthwhile investment?" when really it's just "Should I buy this game for X dollars or can I easily get it elsewhere for a third that price?"

Yeah....I'm with Keir here...sometimes, especially if it's NOT for a system I collect for, I don't want to get taken. And this forum helps avoid that :)

I'm an avid gamer going way back to the 2600 days and I collect for a few vintage systems. I'm about 160 games away from completing my US NES collection. There's no way I'd have the time to play the 500+ NES games that I have right now. The NES having the most nostalgia for me, I only had about 20 games growing up and it's a thrill to collect them all. I also work as a computer programmer and have a lot of respect for what these game programmers have done.
I kinda get tired of the "hate the collectors" point of view. I personally don't know too many people who can dedicate more than ten hours a week to gaming. As I collect I buy valuable games for systems that I have no interest in playing or keeping. Thus, I sell these games / systems. What do I do with the profit? Put it back into video games of course! I'm sure some of the money I'm spending is going into collector's hands who collect for other systems. And as I stated I'm a game player too.
Personally I'm all for people asking for pricing on games. After all, isn't hunting for games at thrifts and fleas a game in itself?
