I know, it seems like a long wait but I'm sure it will be worth it: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/call-of-duty-6-due-2010/

I highly doubt that the game will be called Call of Duty 6 with as fucked up as the current numbering scheme is. They'll probably just continue without the numbers as they have been doing with other CoD releases since CoD4.

2010? Uh-oh, what will the CEO of Activision think about this? I thought he demanded annual releases (http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/12/call-of-duty-gu.html)of the COD and Guitar Hero franchises. Plus...2010? Isn't that Xbox 720 territory?

Just because the next Infinity Ward CoD comes out in 2010 doesn't mean that the next CoD after World At War will be in 2010. The numbering scheme is all fucked up at this point and calling it CoD6 is completely fucked up and wrong.
I mean, Infinity Ward internally considered CoD4 to be Call of Duty 3, there's been multiple console exclusive games (Big Red One, Finest Hour, Call of Duty 3), two handheld games with no relation to other games in the series (CoD4, CoD N-Gage) not to mention Road to Victory, which was a reworked CoD3.
There's no point in referring to future versions by number anymore and it's doubtful that they'll even bother assigning numbers to them instead of simply relying on subtitles.

That date is wrong, its due in 2009. Hardly newsworthy, we knew they were on 2 year development schedules trading off each year and next years turn is Infinity's.
