Last weekend I had the chance to see Juno First running on Joe's MAME-rig, and I was impressed enough to actually get around to installing MAME on my PC at home. Which is not as simple as you'd think, considering I took the Linux plunge a couple of months ago and don't yet know exactly what I'm doing.

Well, I got xmame running fine on the system last weekend, but could not get the joystick to work, no matter how much I cursed at the damn machine! Finally, after spending nearly every night this week fighting with it, I finally got the joystick working tonight!

And let me tell you, Juno First looks cool, plays fast, and sounds great!

I'm only just getting into it though, and was wondering if there is any depth I'm missing, or is it just a fancy Galaxian? Dave?

Cool game, I just don't know how I missed it all these years. Everyone I ask about it says they remember it from back in the day. I didn't discover it until a couple years ago. You'd think I would have stumbled onto it sooner, especially since I all my old (slowwww) MAME machine could do was oldies.

Dave seems to be the resident expert; from observing him last week I can tell you that he doesn't constantly move forward, but waits for the screen to fill up w/ bad guys, and blasts that pod and saves that little spaceman, and the racks up points big time. I tried to play that way the last time, but all I achieve is a lot of death; my strategy is to move forward as quickly as possible and let the bad guys scroll around again.

Tough ass hell game, but extremely rewarding. Reminds me of Beamrider but with 2 axies (sic?). Also, have been playing Last Resort (SNK game) on mame lately, tough and unfair but fun.
