It's a new app from AMD that shuts down all unnecessary CPU/GPU processes while gaming. And it works on older single and dual-core CPU's, as well as the new X3, X4, Semprons, Opteron's, and FX's.

One catch - only for Vista 32bit. No 64bit support, at the moment. But there will be one, though.... Stay tuned.

vista only is fail :(

Though I guess it would make up for some of the resources vista takes to run :P

Kinda disarmed your own reasoning for 'fail' there, but you're right. The only case where something like this seems necessary is in Vista, with all its extra crap running in the background.

You know it's sad when the hardware guys have to take it upon themselves to disable software processes just so things can run decently.

not really, I said SOME not all, and that's assuming that the "enhanced" resource usage on the cpu side is the ONLY problem. It still does nothing to optimize your RAM. And resources aren't even the entirety of it :| HD? Opengl? Compatibility? Stability?

No, it doesn't disarm my reasoning for fail :P

Thanks though ;p

You said the thing was fail for being Vista-only, but Vista is the only platform where something like this would be necessary, so what the hell are you even talking about.

ah thought u were referring to me calling vista fail :P

But still, while it would most benefit vista it wouldn't exactly go amiss in xp..... automatically shutting down the programs that startup with your comp (quicktime, google shit, java, whateverelseudontuse). I happen to have shut those down from starting up but it would be useful for a lot of people :P

Now if it only shutdown unused windows processes well then ya it's probably a bit more useless :P Does say all unused though ^^

Ah, sorry for coming off a little harsh there.

Yeah, there could be a difference on XP as well, but you might need benchmarking software to see it. Still, for those guys who want to get the highest possible scores on 3DMark or whatever... I wonder if it wouldn't be that hard for AMD to port it over.

Someone put out a version of XP a year or so ago with almost all the processes and services stripped away that weren't completely necessary, designed to run with the smallest possible memory footprint... of course it's all totally unofficial and hence illegal, but it's floating around out there somewhere.

You can make your own version of an XP install with NLite, and remove all the stuff you NEVER use from ever getting installed. Best of all, it's completely legal because you're using your own copy of XP! I tried it but I ended up with a slightly messed up XP install, which led to me having to reinstall everything again. It was my fault for trying to do stuff I didn't understand very well, but whatever.

To echo dao2 a bit, I see NO REASON for them to not support XP out of the box, other than maybe different admin rights on XP. I dunno.

I don't need a new piece of software to manage my processess.

Oh... Windows. Gotcha.
