The Roundtable will create a page that explores everything there is to know about the Sega classic "Fantasy Zone" (we had originally chosen Bubble Bobble but there is already a very in-depth website out there). The page should have everything from history to screen shots to easter eggs, rarity scales, links, lore, etc. etc. etc.

The first step is to decide who will do what. I've volunteered to take the point and will keep things organized (ha!) in one place. Everyone who contributes will be credited, you can have a link to your own site or your email address connected to your name, and we'll publish the page as soon as there's enough content to do so.

Here's the current assignments. Contributors, send your stuff along to digitalpress@email.com. I'll keep everyone posted right here as this is a TEAM project, and as soon as I have enough to get a decent page online (which shouldn't take long and would be great to have v1.0 up by the weekend) we'll raise anchor.

-Raccoon Lad: description of differences between versions.
-gamergary/Xipe: ROMs
-Kaine23: sound files (MIDI)
-Neb: screen shots
-Neb: Fantasy Zone trading card scan
-Neb: Opa Opa mag screenshot (from PSO)
-Ubersaurus: video tape scan (?)
-Arq_Digital: misc reviews and scans

Don't forget, the NES and Famicom versions are different, which is quite surprising, considering that it's the same hardware. Regardless, Tengen and Sunsoft each programmed their own conversion of the arcade game.

I'm in!
Depending on what the deadline is to get our stuff in, (when is it?)
I can get some screen shots from the games, and a scan of a Japanese Fantasy Zone trading card I have. I'll also try to get the screen shots of the Opa-Opa mag in PSO, and the figures in Shenmue. Maybe some other stuff too.

So are there other versions besides the NES and SMS versions?

I'm sure if I kicked around my friend enough he'd scan a cover of one of the Zillion video tapes (as I'm positive one of them has Opa-Opa on the cover).

I should have all the roms, for all the systems.
Have to dig out some cd-r's and check my HD.

And I can ofcourse get screenshots, will check if I have all roms, and playtest them ofc.

There is also an arcade version of the game.

The Japanese version of Fantasy Zone: the maze was called "Opa Opa"
Fantasy Zone 2 was released on the Famicom as well, and if no one paid attention before when I said it, Fantasy Zone on the Famicom is DIFFERENT than Fantasy Zone on the NES.
Pllus, don't forget the arcade version, and "Space Fantasy Zone" for the Pc engine CD

If there's anything I can offer, I would love to contribute. I'm an English major at college right now, so maybe I could do something involving that? Perhaps an unbiased review (from someone who's never played the game until now), or an article comparing/contrasting it with other members of the genre?

If nothing else, my offer to code some or all of the site are still on the table. Any other jobs you come up with, I would be more than happy to give my best shot.

Hi everyone,

I wish I had something interesting or helpful to contribute...looks like the major bases are covered so far. However, maybe I can get in on the next game series chosen after this one :-)

Can you code a Flash animation? If not, a review or two might be the way to go - with all of these versions it would be nice to get several different points of view.

Also, we could probably use some artwork - not just scans but web-art like borders, buttons, banners, etc in a Fantasy Zone theme.

Hmmm..I dunno if i can handle the differences descriptions. I'm a little busy with stuff, but I CAN provide some resources/links to fairly obscure web-recources.

Plus, U can use this if you want: http://raccoonlad.topcities.com/video/opaopa.gif

I'm fairly well versed at making buttons and web graphics in photoshop. You tell me what you need, and I can pretty much make it.

I have done SOME flash, but probably not enough to do anything for the site gracefully.

In that case, I'd probably rather do either some graphics, a review, or both. What ever you have a need for. Just let me know, and I'll get right to work.

Here's another one for the List: Fantasy Zone - MSX1

And while we're at it, could someone please fix the review for Fantasy Zone on this site, "Phantasy Zone (Giarrusso)" is spelled WRONG!!! I mentioned it before, but no-one ever fixed it.

I know it only says "Fantasy Zone" on the cart, but isn't the Gamegear version oficially titled "Fantasy Zone Gear"?

"You are correct, sir."

Also, remember to get a screenshot of the hidden "Fantasy Zone" styled mini game in Arnold Palmer Golf for the Genny.

Whoops, I just noticed Fantasy Zone II is on the MSX-1 also. I don't know how they pulled off such quality graphics and multi-color sprites on that game, seeing as it's running on hardware similar to that of the Colecovision.

Should we sticky this so everyone can keep up to date on this project?

OK I got some of the things from some of you.

If possible, send along your bits by Saturday, noonish. I'll put the page up and we'll take it from there. Should be pretty cool stuff.

My stuff should be sent out by the end of the day.

I'm having problems finding the binder that the Fantasy Zone card is in. I might not be able to get the scan of that out tonight. But as soon as I find it, I'll send it in.

Also, I just realized that my video capture device has problems taking good moving screen shots, and since the mag in PSO is always moving, the Opa-Opa mag comes out a little blurry. I remember that you can take screenshots in PSO by pushing some buttons on the controller in slot four, but I can't remember the website that you have to visit afterwards to send them from your memory card. I've looked on the internet, but I can't find the website anywhere. Does anyone know it?
