On the PS3 is there any way to skip down in lists?

I am running UPnP on my PS3 and have it connected to my home server. I recently just copied every MP3 album I own to my server. The problem is, it's a lot of albums, and it takes forever to scroll down through the list.

Does anybody know a way to jump down to the next letter, skip 10 (or 100) entries, etc? It's going to take me a week to get down to ZZ Top!

Go up! ;)

I ended up nesting folders. Have you tried the L/R buttons?

just put the band names or albums in alphabetical order. That should reduce a lot of the scrolling you would have to do. You'd just go through the alphabet, then go through the band name.

If you mean putting each one in a folder with just the letter ("A", "B", etc) I've considered that. If you mean just putting them in alphabetical order ... that's what I have now. I just checked and I have 4,766 albums in there and another 1,200 CDs to rip. I scrolled for two minutes last night and made it to the end of the B's ...

I think I did, but I can't remember. I'll double check tonight.

When I had my PS3, I had my PC serving up my collection of 13,667 MP3's through Winamp remote. As far as I remember, Winamp remote automatically sorted them by album for me and made it much easier to navigate. At least this is how I remember it worked, although I do have my album folders set as Artist-Album Title format.

yeah, I just meant alphabetize them into folders with just letters, scroll down to folder "S" and within' it you would find Slipknot, Sevendust, Slayer (or whatever you listen to). Thats probly the easiest way I could think of at the moment, but I don't use the PS3 much for music.

That's the problem -- I don't either, so now I'm stuck between changing all my folders so that on the rare occasion that I listen to MP3s on my PS3 that it's easier to navigate, or leave it the way it is and deal with it.

By the way, I *do* have Slipknot, Sevendust and Slayer in there. :)

Can't you just click one, hit the "S" key, and it will jump down to the first one that starts with an "S"?

My PS3 doesn't have an "S" key!

Unless you're suggesting putting a USB keyboard in there and navigating that way?

Yes. Connecting it to servers and stuff sounds like a process in which one would use a keyboard, so I thought he would've had one connected already, but maybe not.

Nope, no keyboard connected. The PS3 automatically supports UPnP; all the real configuration work happens on the server -- navigation on the console is done via the controller.

Maybe a video would make more sense; I'll see what I can do. In the meantime I'll look for the "S" key. ;)

Alphabetical folders is a bit better, but truth is the ps3 just reads the data way too slow regardless. I recommend getting an external HD or some other form of data storage to get the songs to your ps3, media connection is best used in small doses.

Use a keyboard, you crazy person.
