I just recently got into the Spectrum a bit.. This is a pretty cool piece of info. The "hail satan" one is rather comical.

Haha I wish I knew that when I had a ZX-81 Basic when I was a kid. How cool!

Very cool! The only one I ever knew of was Infosoc's one at the end of their CD - I played it into a terminial back in the day.

That's really interesting! I guess there's no report of any US artists doing anything like this, eh?

That's pretty amazing stuff. It's surprising to me that apparently no American artists tried this with the C64 or any then-contemporary machines in the US. As described it looks to mostly be a UK thing, and nevertheless extremely cool.

This is incredibly cool. I have never heard of anything like this.
I agree with Pantechnicon. It's kind of dissapointing that noone tried this in the US with the C-64 ar Atari 8-bit.

I've read about data on vinyls before, but never really read about the bands that did this or their cassettes either. Very cool. Thanks!

Actually, 3 InSoc albums had data: The sef-titled 1988 album, Peace & Love Inc., and Don't Be Afraid.
I remember the P&L inc. Album connected you to a BBS where you could download extra tracks, photots, and Lyrics for their first 2 albums. Those were the days. I wonder if they're still up? Looks like I need to break out the old albums, and fire up Hyper Terminal.

Games hidden on LPs -- wow... that's incredible and very cool. I've been playing Pac man Fever into my cuttle cart, but so far NOTHING! :)

Probably not. Insoc stuff has a habit of vanishing. I recently found out about the original WAV file for White Roses (the scavenger hunt one) almost being lost to the aether.
The internet moves on, but sadly, websites do not.

thats crazy like a fool. WAHOOOOOO
Another oddity:
There was a program in the UK letting you d/l programs from the TV. It was called 4 Computer Buffs, and they gave you a piece of hardware to put together (for C64, Spectrum, BBC) and when contructed, you could d/l by pointing the device onto the dot on the TV screen.
Also, there were some Radio stations transferring software too.

Aside from being a game nerd, I'm also a bit of a vinyl junkie, so this is definitely awesome.

Yeah. I tried it. It's gone.
Everything is up on Itunes, now.
And I was mistaken on the albums.... It was Don't Be Afraid, that had the BBS data. P&L Inc. has some weird text message, about a live show in Spain, or somewhere..
If I remember correctly, Lou Reed also had a CD+G release. But I don't remember the name of the album.
I really wanna find that Thompson Twins 12-inch, now...

Wow, too bad there was never a video game system based on record, THAT would of been badass!
I wonder how much data a record can hold?

I hear that there was a Pong ROM hidden on an Edison Wax Cylinder.

Too many people overclocked their Edisons back then and the ROM has been lost to history.

Yes, but like Nolan Bushnell vs. Ralph Baer, Edison stole Pong from Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville who originally had Pong recorded on smoke paper:

Rumor has it that Pythagoras had Space War encoded onto the outsides of vases.

This is awesome! One of the coolest things in gaming. Really makes me wish I grew up in the UK.
