View Full Version : *FIXED* Inserted SNES cart backwards, now console is DEAD. *FIXED*

I know, I'm an idiot. I took apart a SNES game, and decided to put it in the console.... turned on the console, got nothing. Turns out I had the dam thing in backwards. Now the console won't turn on, no red LED. I tried the game on another console and both work fine.. so I messed something on the original console.
It's been suggested that I blew this fuse: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/snes-fuse.htm
Doesn't look blown to me (I'm down to the bare CPU board now :) ), but then again I have 0 electric knowledge, I'll replace the fuse but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Turns out that fuse WAS blown. I took a paperclip to bridge it and walla.. it works! So.. now I gotta find a place that carries the fuse.

Fuses like that never show that they blew externally, barring a major fuck up.
The only way to know if it's blown is to check it with a multimeter. You should be able to get one cheap from Radio Shack or some other place like that. Don't worry about being a novice. The manual that comes with the meter should tell you how to do a continuity check.

Yeap, sounds like the fuse has gone bad.
Any little shock, will easily kill it....most likely as a result of your action.

*drumroll on the last comment* lol
when i first saw the title of this before i saw you had taken the board out my thoughts were "Wow this guy MUST be an idiot to have somehow forced a cart in backwards". Outside of the case this mistake is much more understandable. Reminds me of this kid i knew, showed up to a lan party with some new ram to put in his computer... Too bad it was sdr and wouldnt fit, to quote him "When i heard the snapping sound i knew it was properly seated" Lol at forcing things where they dont belong.

Actually, fuses like that blow all the time, especially in SNESs. I've had it happen to 2. SNESs are very sensitive to static electricity outside their cases. Probably more so than anything else I can think of, in my experience.
