As those of you who own the game know, you can insert your own CD and have Vib zip through the custom-generated playfield in step with your music.
I've tried about a dozen different CD's, the result is usually a VERY HARD track. I've managed to get through some of them (AC/DC's "Back In Black was good fun to play through), but usually I lose it with the crazy combinations coming at unusual speeds and angles. I'm not THAT good, but it's still fun to try!
What tracks have you tried, and what level would you say those tracks are (ie AC/DC Back in Black: Intermediate)?

I, sadly, still haven't quite figured out how to get other cds to work with the game! I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong.. I've been able to hear the cd playing, but the game doesn't go along with it.

Oh God, I must've played 100 CD's with Vib Ribbon at least. And nearly every one was damn, damn hard, and harder than the cute n' catchy music included in the game. Perhaps it's just the kind of music I prefer, electronic/hip hop/or Morrissey. From what I recall (I left the game in Japan and will retrieve it next month) ambient techno (think The Orb) was somewhat playable.

Hmm... Hey, Ms. PoG, what are you using for your import game playing? If it's a game enhancer sort of thing, make sure you swap the audio CD in, and lift then lower the lid switch so it actually knows there's a new CD in there. I have to do a similar procedure for running Beatmania Appends and stuff.
If it's a mod chip or an actual imported PSX, then I have no idea. :-)

It's a modded system.. I dunno, I'll have to mess with it some more. I had a feeling that maybe there was something going on so that it didn't notice I'd put a music cd in, but then that doesn't explain why I heard the music but the game didn't follow along..

Weird. Did it just play stages from the original game songs while using your CD music? It might be the mod chip, if that's what happened. Perhaps the chip made the system think it was just a PSX game CD, and Vib Ribbon just said "Hey, there's my CD again. I'll play the normal stages." This would be, of course, assuming that the game uses pre programmed levels for the default stages rather than generating them on the fly.
Does your PSX handle audio CDs properly from the BIOS CD player?

Yes

And yes to this as well (the pattern is always the same for each of the levels every single time you play the regular levels.)
Maybe you're right.
