I just watched one of the free IGN videos on the 360's marketplace about beating the two bosses(chainsaw dude and ax man) from the demo. Good Paul, you have to damn near hit them with everything in the map before they die. Three to five explosive barrels, grenades, an electrifying generator, tons of weapon ammo and the kitchen sick. No wonder I haven't beat them yet. Of course they probably wouldn't seem so tough if I had already mastered the controls.

Sheesh, and I thought the RE4 chainsaw maniacs were bad at the time... LOL

I did manage to kill him though, thanks to the generator tip from heybtbm.

Is there any word on "challenge" modes similar to the Mercenaries stages from RE4? I think I spent almost as much time perfecting those levels than I did playing through the game multiple times (approaching 20 as of last October). I used to study speed runs in order to maximize my point levels. Man, those 5 levels were fun.

Early on I was convinced RE5 would have a multiplayer component similar to those Mercenaries levels. Multiplayer doesn't appear to be the case, but it would still be awesome to have online rankings for similar type challenge modes.

I was bit underwhelmed when I played the demo. I did enjoy uppercutting and falcon punching infected. I also had trouble with bagman, until I used all my grenades, all the exploding barrels, and most of my pistol ammo to bring him down. I knew you could use the generator on that pole, but I was too busy running around like a school girl from bagman.

What I'm really looking forward to is finally facing off with Wesker, figuring out what's happening with Umbrella and Tri-Cel, who that girl in that tank of water was, and who is lurking around in that black cloak and bird mask.

I didnt even know about the electric generator thing until I saw the IGN videos:( Might be the reason I was only able to kill the boss one time.

I finished the first demo sequence last night by just running around until the helicopter arrived. This was new to me, since I had previously died every time trying to kill the big ax guy. This "flight instead of fight" strategy fits right in to the standard RE formula. At least on the first playthrough when ammo is precious, it's best to run.

Neither did I. The only thing I did know is that the two bosses kept beating my ass despite all the headshots I unloaded on them.

I sure hope so:frustrated:

Sadly, I haven't played the demo, but I may buy the game tommorow at TRU and get a free 20 dollar gift card. The past week I have been playing the Resident Evil games again, and I finished RE4 twice and RE3, RE2 and Code Veronica once. I am a huge fan of the series, and started playing the games when I was six back in 1999.

Just came back from getting the game at GS, they were also having a Buy 2 get 1 free on used games, so I ended up getting a few games as I waited for Midnight to arrive. Well the CE is one of the better CE's I've seen, it comes with enough stuff to warrant the price. I especially like the metal case, most CE's come packaged with the standard case, so it's nice to see Capcom not follow suit. I also grabbed the CE strategy guide, it's nothing special, but it was marked down (a special for the release I guess), so I figured what the hell.

I just played the demo. I only beat the first level with the axe guy, but didn't bother finishing the chainsaw guy level. So far, it looks like a great game, but the inventory system was a dissapointment. Hopefully the merchant shows up in this game, and hopefully the storyline is good too.

RE4 is a tough act to follow, especially since I heavily favor Leon S. Kennedy to Chris Redfield. We'll see though.

Played the game for a little bit and despite a very disappointing plot detail regarding a character, I am very satisfied with the game so far. It feels like the controls were fixed a bit, because they don't feel as tight as they did in the demo. Not sure if this had to do with the update (which I think was for online mode for mercenaries), but maybe that had a part in it.

I preordered from capcom online in jan. They send me an email 2:30am today saying that the item is back ordered. I have never seen a manufacture site have such crappy shipping usually you get the game the day before or shortly after. SF4 I had to wait almost 2 weeks. I ordered both together. I tried to cancel that order they had a line that says you can only cancel the day of order. If it comes I am sending it back. Totally disgusted.

I am tempted to get the limited console.

I wonder if TRU is getting some LE's as well as regular editions, and if they also qualify for the $20 off? I'm tempted to grab it but at the same time Iknow it will be discounted at Target to $9.98 really soon...

So I hit a couple of stores to catch any "deals" that are going on for RE5. Target - nothing. Walmart - nothing. Gamestop has the trade-in deal to get the game for $20. Toys R Us has the $20 giftcard deal. I decide to go with TRU but the computer won't give me the $20 card since I bought their ONE copy RE5 Collectors Edition instead of the regular edition. The manager comes over and "forces" the computer to give me one but says he's not sure if I was supposed to get one or not with the CE. This is a HUGE brand new TRU and they only received one each of the PS3 and 360 CE's, so if you're wanting one from TRU, get there QUICK!

My favorite part of the TRU $20 gift card thing is the gift card doesn't "activate" until 4 hours after the initial transaction. The employee explained that this helps ensure a 2nd visit to the store. LAME. Still...$20 is $20.

Yeah, it worked like a charm. What happened was I bought one of the RE limited edition consoles and an extra copy of the game. Not only did I get the $20.00 gift card for buying the game, I also got the $50.00 gift card for buying the console along with it. Right after they checked me out I was able to use the $70.00 gift card on another purchase.

Just bought a regular copy at TRU for 60 bucks and got the 20 dollar gift card. The employee there said I had to wait 6 hours in order to use the gift card, which kind of sucked, but I gave it to my dad since he drove me there which ate up about an hour.

I am on chaper 1-2, and I am fighting the leech monster thing. So far the Pro mode is harder than RE4's Pro mode, but I am enjoying every second of it. Definately worth 60 (40 with gift card I guess) bucks.

I picked up mine after work. Got the LE Elite bundle and then the Collector's Edition. I personally think the CE sucks. The metal tin the game comes in is cool, but the Chris figure is so tiny he puts the Altair one to shame. Plugged up the new system. Left the collector's edition alone and just played with the pack in game. iamchris and I played for about four hours. Whew.

Co-op is fun, but the story is lacking. I always enjoyed the RE storylines....this one seems to focus more of the co-op aspect. I hope this series doesn't go this route. It's rarely "scary" anymore. Nothing has made me jump...except how shitty my partner is. I've been playing through as Chris....man I love his beefy arms.

I'm at the beginning of act 5. So far, it's pretty good.

The game rung up as fifty bucks at TRU when I picked it up, and the cashier didn't seem to care when I pointed out that it should be sixty. I got the gift card too, so I ended up paying thirty bucks for it. Not a bad deal.

I'm at the end of Act 3 now. It's....not bad. I hated it at first...then I SLOWLY got the hang of the controls with Type A. That's the only one I was able to use easily. I still don't like the angle the camera sits at though. Sucks. Controls are feh at best though. And I hate the partner stuff...she's essentially a pack mule for me.

Story.....nothing interesting yet. It's just attack this attack that. Yawn. It's like RE4...but not as good. Plus...why is Chris SO BURLY?? Yeek.

Anyway, should have it beat by tomorrow. I'm just not loving this one.

Loving every freaking minute of it!

The pacing, item management and story have all been thought out with extreme care by Capcom and imo they have reached that magical cinematic/gaming experience that the series has always needed.

Imo, this game is everything Resident Evil 4 was, but much more refined and focused. Early contender for GOTY imho.

I beat it last night with a friend of mine over at one of the many gamer communities I visit, and I must say it was an awesome time. I will be playing through this again though (Like I always have for Resident Evil games)

And believe what they say- the game is short. We beat it in under 7 hours.

I'm playing through solo right now and I'm averaging about 25 minutes per chapter (1.1, 1.2, etc.) I was told by a friend, and heard on X-Play, that two player goes by quicker just due to the fact that your partner isn't a lumbering AI that doesn't really help you out.

Also when going through levels, I like to go down every corridor, break open every crate, slash every pile of grapefruits, and read every clipboard, so my times may be a bit slower than others.

I picked this up yesterday as well and played about 4 hours. 2 with a friend and 2 solo and let me say that playing with someone else is infinitely more fun than alone. The "help" actions become more meaningful making you feel like "shit, I'm on my way buddy" as opposed to "jesus, you're dying again". Plus you can never underestimate the fun of telling your buddy he's garbage and slowing you down lol.

Plus I agree with maxlords "pack mule" description of Sheeva when you're playing alone. And you have to be careful what you give her as she burns through ammo like there's plenty of it around. Her accuracy seems okay just the placement of her shots. I can't even count how many times she'll use like 7 handgun bullets (all aimed at the legs/arms) to kill a random dude.

That's about the standard length of any survival horror game, so beating the game within 8 hours sounds completely normal to me. Re-playability is the key factor with this type of game and the unlockables (which I hear are a plenty), leader boards and co-op modes really help make this game very re-playable. Hopefully they will release some neat DLC for the game, I could easily see Capcom releasing an expansion to the game and giving their current track record it'll be well worth the purchase.

Do you consider 8 hours of gameplay too short? I would.

8 hours is actually the perfect length for a game like this. It's a level based action game with some of the best co-op gameplay you will find in a current gen game. It reminds me much more of the classic beat 'em ups that two friends could sit down and play through on a weekend, than Resident Evil.

The teamwork that two players needs to do is minimal, a couple of assisted jumps, some splitting up- but the real teamwork is item management.

As a single player exp. I doubt it's better than RE4, that game was gold. But it is clearly not meant to be played by yourself, as indicated by the seamless online play. After you beat it, you unlock New Game +. Since this game doesn't take 50 hours to beat, it's the perfect game to replay if you jus want to chill at home for the day.

And RE1, which still remains my favorite in the series, can be beaten in much less time than 8 hours.

Sadly, the DLC for RE5 was already complete before the game's release. In other words...it could have been added to the game but it's just a money grab instead.... *sigh*

Too short? Every single Resident Evil game has been around 8 hours. The only exception is RE4, and after you play through it a few times, 8 hours is about right. This isn't a JRPG.

Besides, Resident Evil games have always been about multiple playthroughs. RE5 is no different.

I'm about five hours in, and enjoying my time in Africa. I do think at some point the game stops being a RE game and becomes almost like Tomb Raider/Uncharted. Which I kinda like in a way. I might even dare to say I'm enjoying it more than RE 4.

Am I the only one who is having problems with split screen co-op?
I played all weekend with a friend together on split screen with my gamer tag on his machine. When I came home tonight, I recovered my gamer tag on my machine so I can play a bit by myself. It didn't save anything.. Please tell me saves aren't tied to the HD and not gamer tags.

Do I have to play on my own Xbox the whole time to make any progress? Did I waste my time playing?

One would figure that since its saving to the harddrive, that since its not your HD it is saving to, then there should be no data on your HD for the game at all. Other than the achievement stuff unlocked on the other game.

Yeah, but even GoW2 did that. I only played my own copy of the game twice. The rest of the time it was the same setup as this. All my weapons, and all my progress carried over to my Xbox when I recovered my gamer tag. I guess this just isn't Gears huh?

Other than this, I've enjoyed the game quite a bit, but I don't even want to play anymore. I already gone through the first 2 chapters twice. I can't handle doing it a third time in 2 days.

Just beat the game and found it to be rather satisfying, despite Sheva's AI being straight up retarded at the worst possible times. I'm looking forward to playing this game a few more times with some of my friends, at least then I can slap them in the head or shout threats over the bluetooth rather than looking crazy when yelling at a fictional character.

It's nice to see that they really did add co-op the Mercenaries, I'll have to play it a bit more after work tomorrow.

Im on Chapter 6-2 now and have had an absolute blast playing. Obviously its better playing co op but single player isnt so bad. I've done like 50/50 and my only complaint on single player is that Sheva can waste a little to much ammo. I did find out if you buy one of those electric rods however, she'll equip that instead even if she has other weapons to use. The game is a bit on the short side but the replay value will be high...at least for me anyway. One thing though is that its not scary at all... like not even in the slightest. I even found Resident Evil 4 scary to some degree but RE 5 is like a great action game which is not a bad thing at all.

I agree that the level exploration and item hunting goes quicker with a live partner, especially in the same room. My friend and I split up the area and slash everything open, telling each other what ammo is around. We usually split up the handgun ammo, he gets the shotgun and machine gun ammo, I get the rifle and magnum ammo. It's a pretty good system so far.

My wife & his girlfriend find our interactions while playing the game hilarious. It's usually me giving him orders (this is his first RE game) and him listening, most of the time lol.

Kinda strange, though, that I want to continue the game but I would feel badly to play it without him.

This game can't hold a candle to the survival horror perfection that is RE4, but it's a great action shooter best served co-op.

I bless you, I would never be able to beat the same game (unless it's a 20 minute Super Mario-type easy game) two or three times in a week. I would lose my mind doing the same thing I just did. It's very rare for me to play a game, and then replay it right after beating it. Counting the games I've wanted to do that in, I can think of only three other games: RE4, GTA IV and Earth Defense Force 2017.

After the initial playthrough, you can speedrun the game in under 3 hours anyways.

Movies... unless it's one of my favorites, I cannot rewatch no matter how hard I try.

Maybe because the game played much better than the previous RE titles, control wise, or how it progressed you through the game without feeling like it was pushing you. The problem with 5 is that the genre has "better" (better in their refinements of the genre in my opinion) games like Gears of War and Uncharted. When 4 came out it was still pretty "fresh" in terms of third person shooter game design.

I can't QUITE put my finger on why I like RE4 a lot better, but it's just the case. Maybe nostalgia. :)

As far as instantly replaying a game, RE4 is certainly there as I started doing speedruns right after I finished. Another recent instant replay was Ninja Gaiden II. Right after I finished Acolyte I jumped straight into Warrior. Wasn't crazy enough to go any higher than that, though.

I plan on going through RE5 at least once more after I finish it.

I think it's Leon. That B-3 Bomber jacket sparked a mini trend. I even bought one just because of the game. His swag-level was just way cool, something Chris does not have. All the steroids in the world won't make him Leon.

RE4 also had perfect controls with the Wii version. Now, I'm in not suggesting this should have come out on the Wii. No way, but if the Wii was a 1080p machine, I'd get that version (if it existed) without even blinking.

Professional finished. 4 playthroughs, I think I'm done with the game for a while. :P

It looks like the majority of people playing this have enjoyed it, though it appears to be more of an action game than a true survival horror game. I'd still say it's another bonafied hit for Capcom. Now if we could just get that Marvel Vs Capcom 3 fighting game....

My favorite part of the TRU $20 gift card thing is the gift card doesn't "activate" until 4 hours after the initial transaction. The employee explained that this helps ensure a 2nd visit to the store. LAME. Still...$20 is $20.

thats weird, i used my gift card not 2 minutes after getting it.

YMMV. Some people have reported it taking as long as 6 hours, some people were able to use it right away. Not sure what the explanation is. I suspect TRU is using a new batch of gift cards. Stores that issued the new cards have a 4-6 hour activation time. Older TRU gift cards probably work right away. Who knows.

Either way, as soon as my wife noticed the Babies 'R Us logo on the gift card she grabbed it. I guess the $20 will be going to diapers rather than games. Oh well.

My TRU gift card said it had a 6 hour activation and was only good until the 31st, and it clearly states that it's a promotional gift card. I guess they're hoping that you either come back or forget about it and let it expire. Either way, it's by far the best deal there was on the game.

As for the game, I'm enjoying it very much. I'm in the middle of chapter 5 (my roommate and I have been waiting until we can both play thanks to work schedules, etc.) so far and have enjoyed almost every minute of it. The one thing I wish they would drop are the quick time events. As much praise as Shenmue had heaped on it when it first came out, and despite the fact that it wasn't the first to include them, I blame that game for the rise of quick time events in modern games. The QTE's aren't a deal-breaker, but they are annoying as hell when they do come along, particularly the ones that mean instant death.

I still think RE4 is a better single-player experience, but 5 is among the best cooperative games released in the past decade.

Beat the game on normal. Doing a second play through on Veteran now. Like four chapters to go then I may do it on Professional. Nothing like blasting zombies with a Hydra with infinite ammo.

I disagree. Killing bosses with one rocket when you unlock the unlimited ammo RPG or dropping chainsaw majinis with one shot from the S&W M500 Magnum are equally as satisfying. :D

Haha true on the infinte rocket launcher. Was playing with a guy yesterday that had that and he was blasting everything in sight. How do you get it? I heard by beating the game in under five hours.

I enjoyed the story even though the big reveal was blantly obvious. The boss battles were epic and some of the bosses were HUGE. I thought there were a few good scares, like when you see those egg sacs on top of the ceiling and thinking, "Man one of those reapers are going to pop out any second." Sure enough once the reaper appeared in my face I jumped out of my seat. Ok maybe not scary, more like suspenseful. Another good example is when you're walking along that hallway where all those rooms with lickers in them. Then when you get to the elevator they all come at you en masse.

I beat it two nights ago and I'll wait awhile before I tackle it again.
