Today marks Myst's 15th anniversary. I remember how impressed we were with it back in the day. The puzzles were maddingly difficult, in fact I don't remember how I managed to finish the game back in the day (with some help from Compuserv, maybe?). I believe my mom still has our copy of the game. :)

Wow, Myst is 15? This is one of the few PC games I've played and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very immersing gameplay. Any game that can keep me coming back despite hours of trying to figure out difficult puzzles is a great game to me.

I never finished this freaking game, and it really bugged me. I refused to look up the solutions. I need to go back to it and see if my older, more intelligent self can figure it out. I was thinking of trying the DS version but Gamespot gave it a whopping... 3.

I love Myst, but I love the backstory even more than the actual game. Happy birthday to a great game AND to my favorite series of books! :D

Ooooh, seconded on the excellent Myst book series.
I've played through all the Myst games through IV, haven't played V: End of Ages yet. For anyone that loved the original and possibly played Riven to even more frustrated disgust... try them again now and watch how quickly you get hooked. :D
Exile (Myst III) is probably my favorite, having one of the most intense and action packed (I said it) endings in the series. My first failure in 3's endgame shocked the living hell out of me.

I tried to go back and play Myst again, but god damn do those puzzles piss me off more now than ever. It was different back then...I mean, I even tolerated a lot of bullshit from Sierra that'd be considered fucking inexcusable now (you know, if they weren't considered classics in adventure gaming), but god damn did those Myst puzzles infuriate me.
RealMyst was an awesome, awesome idea that I wish had succeeded better, though. Great idea and a great execution. If you like Myst but never played RealMyst, you totally missed out (though I think it's up on GameTap still?).
You know, I was actually thinking of picking up the DS port and giving it yet another shot, but after all of the negative reviews I decided to just pass on it. If I ever give the game another try, it'll be through RealMyst again. Lord, was that an awesome product.

Happy birthday, big seller.
I'm pretty sure the Sims hold that spot now, though.

Yup. Myst was the best-selling CD-ROM game until The Sims came out.

I couldn't figure out those damn puzzles for the life of me. All Myst was good for was putting me to sleep!

I loved Myst~ I remember playing that a lot when I was younger. I can't on my PC now because of WINXP making the cut scenes disappear!
I still will play it on my Saturn from time to time... if it's hooked... I must play though the game actually cause I figured out how to finish the game pretty early.

I played MYST on the (Matsushita) Panasonic 3DO , the system has a control pad with headphone output!
One game that I got a copy and never played was a Portuguese version of Riven for SEGA Saturn ... Since I never owned one Saturn I passed away this translated game (nice cardboard box!) , there was nice things on SEGA Saturn like the Karaoke discs. Too bad that I missed the White Saturn and the "Skeleton" Saturn. Those goodies that went into the Brazilian roots were nice!
It is weird that Riven for SEGA Saturn got a cancellation on the North America ... Since this game had localized versions for the other countries !!! Another weird thing is that not everybody would like to read the weird texts on the boxes ...
